BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Student Association of Materials Engineering (MTM) of ITB and Metallurgy Students Association (IMMG) ITB held a seminar with theme "The Importance of Mastery Nanotechnology for National Manufacturing Sector" which included as one of events in Metallurgy and Materials Fair (MMFair) 2011. The seminar that take place in the Auditorium East Campus Center ITB was held on Friday (11/11/11).

The seminar was attended by three speakers, namely: (1) Prof. Dr. Ir. Mikrajuddin Abdullah (Lecturer of Physics Study Program ITB), (2) Dr. Nurul Taufiqurahman (Chairman of the Indonesian Nanotechnology Society), and (3) Dr. Ir. Bambang Sunendar Purwasasmita (Lecturer of Engineering Physics Study Program ITB).

Mikrajuddin in his presentation said that actually mastery nanotechnology is very easy and simple. Mikrajuddin's research produce a material that can capture sunlight by using nanoparticles. "TiO2 material is littered with uncontrolled amounts of elements such as carbon and nitrogen can narrow the distance between the energy and the energy will "jump" so that it can absorb more light," explains Mikrajuddin. Naterial produced from such nanoparticles can be used in water purification, for example, eliminating pollutants in rivers in Indonesia.

"Nowadays nanotechnology is highly developed. Nanotechnology is already widely used to create a variety products such as cosmetic products, energy, and agroculture," said Taufiqurahman. Small and medium industries, researchers from universities, and business entrepreneurs become important actors in developing these nanotechnology.

Taufiqurrahman also mentions, "Support policies and incentives are necessary to initiate the growth of nanotechnology, because I believe Indonesia will soon be entering an era where nano products will flood the national market." In this case, acceleration strategies of the application of nanotechnology are needed for the national industry of public-private partnerships in order to realize the nano era.
