Preparing College Students to Enter The Working Environment Through Seminars
Considerable differences between the college and the working environment often make students feel fear to tread. Because of this issue, Kementerian Implementasi Bisnis Keluarga Mahasiswa ITB cooperate with PT Paragon Technology & Innovation (PT PTI) held a seminar with the theme "How To Prepare For Your Future" on Tuesday (23/09/14). The main speakers are present in this seminar is Salman Subakat, ST (Marketing Director of PT PTI) and Abimana Aryasatya (Actor). Interesting theme choice and reliable speaker attracted enthusiasm ITB students. At least 400 participants attended the seminar, which took place in the West Hall ITB.
The most important stage in determining a career that will be taken is to recognize the personality and potential. In choosing a profession, should be tailored to the type of personality. Even so, personality was not always constrain people to choose their profession. For example, Salman who are alumni of Electrical Engineering ITB 1998 admitted that he was introverted type. In spite of that, he does not have trouble demanding profession as a marketing director to be able to build good relationships with others.
There are several tests of personality, where one of them is presented in this seminar, the Myers Briggs Test, or more popularly known as the MBTI. According to this test, human personality grouped into 16 types, Introvert-Extrovert, Sensing-Intuition, Thinking-Feeling, and Judging-Perceiving. After knowing the personality of ourselfes, then someone could mapped their potential well and seek appropriate profession. In addition to mapping potential, it was no less important is knowing what areas are well liked, or so-called passion. Chosen profession should also be adapted to areas of interest, so there was no load in living.
Master Degree or Working
The choice between continuing the master degree with working often makes students faltered. Decisions taken should be adjusted to individual final goal. Salman suggests, when someone wants to decide to work in a relatively small company, it was better to take the master degree program first. Otherwise, when deciding to work at a company that has been established, master degree is often unnecessarily. In fact, there are certain companies who do not want a master graduates, so applicants should even hide his master degree certificate " The most important thing is the purpose to take master degree are strong," Salman added.
The last key was given by Salman diligent and conscientious in carrying option that has been taken. "As you all can see, there are successful introvert. There was introvert people who succeed. There are also succesfull person who fierce and annoying. Which I have never seen it, successful people who are not diligent." At the end of the seminar, both speakers agreed on the understanding that the intelligence was not the sole determinant in success. Two other intelligence, the emotional and spiritual intelligence must also be held. "The heart must be filled," Abimana said. "Not only intellectual, but spiritual intelligence is also important," he added close this seminar.
