Socialization of Fellowship Program for Women in Science 2016: The Importance of Regeneration of Indonesian Women Researchers

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - scientist is one profession that often associated with the work of men. Whereas, women also have the same capabilities, even better. Unfortunately, the number of women who are educated to doctoral programs is extremely less. Concern over this phenomenon became a reason for L'Oréal Indonesia launched three programs to support regeneration of researcher women in Indonesia, that socialized on Monday (11/04/16) at the Auditorium of the IPTEKS Campus Center (CC) Timur of ITB, starting at 10.30-12.30. The event was facilitated by research institutions and community services (LPPM) this ITB is a partnership between L'Oréal Indonesia and Indonesia's National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Education and Culture (KNIU Kemendikbud).
The event titled "Regeneration of Women Researchers for a better Indonesia" is also marked the beginning of the activities of the L'Oréal Science Projects, fellowship program for women researchers who have been held since 2004, namely; L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science (FWIS), a program for women young researcher who dedicated his career to developing the scientific innovation and contribute to the sustainable development of Indonesia; L'Oréal Sorority in Science (SIS), a program that targets students who need funds to learn or choose science as a future career; and L'Oréal for Girls in Science (LGIS), a program that targets high school students interested in order to choose science as a career majors and in the future.
 
"Indonesia has researcher women that care for Indonesia development in different fields, including the economy, health, and the environment. We need to ensure that there is a regeneration of women in competitiveness in Indonesia," said Prof. Dr. Arief Rachman, M. Pd., as Chairman of the KNIU Daily Kemendikbud, on his opening statement.

Furthermore, Ovidia Nomia (Corporate Communications Manager, PT Indonesia L'Oréal), the present terms and conditions of the third program launched by L'Oréal. To provide a more detailed description for the dozens of women who attend this event, the event continued with a talk show featuring Dr. Fenny M. Dwivany, Ph.D. (L'Oréal FWIS 2006 Fellow), Dr. Eng. Yosi Agustina Hidayat S.T., M.T. (L'Oréal FWIS 2013 Fellow), and Dr.rer.nat. Aluicia Anita Artarini (L ' Oréal FWIS 2015 Fellow).

FWIS received dozens of proposals themed the life sciences and materials sciences each year, the work of women scientists and researchers under 40 years old and are already pursuing a doctoral level, or on the anticipated doctoral level. However, this theme does not limit that scientists and researchers working in other fields, such as Yosi. A woman who is a lecturer in the course of industrial engineering ITB is proposed regarding the application of Markov chain in case of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia, focusing on the field of management science. In short, the proposals from various background science can be a winner, as long as it relates to the life sciences as well as in the material sciences. What's more, for the program this year there is a theme of the expansion, which includes engineering, physical science, and mathematics.

"This program is great for young researchers who recently completed school. Unlike other sponsors which base their funding decisions on the track record, FWIS can become a milestone for researchers who do not yet have the experience, "said Anita.
