BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—The Special Committee for the Draft Law on the Continental Shelf of the Indonesian Parliament visited the Center for International Maritime Law Studies and the Center for Coastal and Marine Area Development (PPWPL) ITB on Monday, September 27, 2021, at the Auditorium lt. 4 Mochtar Koesoemaatmadja Building, Padjadjaran University, Jl. Dipati Measure No. 35 Bandung City.

Academics from the Bandung Institute of Technology and Padjadjaran University were invited to participate in the visit to provide data and information. The DPR RI Special Committee was led by Taufik Basari, S.H., S. Hum., LL.M. from the Nasdem Party, while from ITB, the team was led by the Head of PPWPL, Mohammad Farid, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., with a team of hydrographers, Dr. Ir. Eka Djunarsjah, M.T., and Andika Permadi Putra, S.T., M.T. Meanwhile, from Unpad, the team was led by Dr. Idris, S.H., M.A., with a team of experts Prof. Dr. Etty Roesmaryati Agoes, S.H., LL.M., and Chlorine Trie Isana Dewi, S.H., LL.M.

Each expert responded to the Academic Draft and the Bill on the Continental Shelf with analysis and response. Dr. Ir. Eka Djunarsjah, M.T. stressed the importance of using more precise terms to avoid misinterpretation, and that Academic Paper drafts should follow the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Similarly, the bill's name has been changed to the Indonesian Continental Shelf in order to make it clearer and more specific, as there were still some terms and writings in the Draft Bill on the Continental Shelf that were not quite proper.

This activity concluded with several positive responses from the DPR RI Special Committee, who asked PPWPL to continue assisting until this bill became law on the continental shelf (Indonesia). Dr. Ir. Eka Djunarsjah, M.T. then made another suggestion to the Special Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia to begin drafting an Additional Zones Bill. An illustration regarding the Additional Zone can be seen in the image below.
