BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development at Institut Teknologi Bandung (SAPPD ITB) has partnered with the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) to host a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in support of the empirical research behind the Draft Bill on Urban Development. The event was held on Monday (April 21, 2025) at the 2nd Floor Seminar Room, Labtek IXA, SAPPD, ITB Ganesha Campus.

This event represents a joint effort between academic and legislative bodies to strengthen the policy framework governing urban development and planning across Indonesia.

The discussion was attended by faculty members and researchers from ITB, members of DPD RI’s II Committees, experts from various fields, and representatives from key government institutions, including the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), and regional governments. The discussion aimed to collect insights grounded in empirical data to address the complex challenges of urbanization in Indonesia today.

The session featured an engaging exchange of ideas on a wide range of critical issues, including spatial and environmental planning, infrastructure provision, institutional governance, and strategies to enhance the capacity of local governments in urban planning.

This agenda is part of a broader field research initiative led by SAPPK ITB, conducted in major cities such as Bandung, Semarang, and Makassar, with the goal of developing policy recommendations based on real-world field conditions.

The insights and findings from this discussion are expected to enrich both the academic manuscript and the draft of the Urban Bill, making a meaningful contribution toward establishing a more inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable legal framework for urban governance in Indonesia.
