Description
As the Maritime Continent, Indonesia has particular characteristics and roles for the surrounding climate. The thermohaline circulation flows through the Indonesian Archipelago from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, known as the Indonesian Throughflow. It governs the environment for the West Pacific and East Indian Ocean regions. The El Nino Southern Oscillation, Indian Ocean Dipole, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and Madden Julian Oscillation modulate the complexity of Ocean–Atmosphere interaction of the region. Indonesia also has the longest volcano-magnetic, most complex seismic path.

Research Topics
Based on the challenge explained, but not limiting the study to a global scale, the program offers three main focuses in Earth Science: Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, and Seismology.

Excellence
Accredited "A" in BAN-PT.

Objectives
This program's educational objectives are to :
  1. Mastering theories, concepts, and paradigms in earth science and technology.
  2. Carry out research and develop earth science and technology through independent research, and be able to transfer knowledge to the scientific community.
  3. Perform synthesis and evaluation and have broad insights into Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, Seismology, and other related fields of science.
  4. Use knowledge and skills to solve complex problems in the scientific fields of Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, and Seismology, including those that require an interdisciplinary approach with other disciplines.
  5. Have an honest and open attitude and be an educated person with great curiosity.

Career Prospects
The alumni of the study program are mostly developing and establishing careers in related fields, mainly in governmental institutions like the National Research and Innovation Agency, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Bureau, Centre of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation, the Universities, Sensors, and Equipment for Earth Science Companies, and Consultant Services for the private sectors. Entrepreneurship and international exposure are included within the study program using exchange students, summer courses, and inbound/outbound programs with overseas partner Universities.
