BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – An innovative start-up was created by students of Institut Teknologi Bandung. Three Management students of SBM-ITB named Aninda Annisa, Rajna Habibah, and Karina Alifa created an app called Canika, which is an app that connects wedding vendors and customers.
With Canika, users can design their wedding anywhere and everywhere within just a click. “To put it simply, Canika is a marketplace for (wedding) vendors, and customers can choose them here,” said Aninda Annisa, CEO of Canika.
The name Canika is taken from Sundanese words can nikah, meaning ‘have not married’. Canika was initially created for a project assignment in Leadership and Management Practice (LMP) subject in SBM-ITB. Then, Aninda with two of her friends saw Canika’s potential to grow. Hence, they carry the app again in Integrated Business Experience (IBE) subject. The subject is where Canika spread its wing wider by recruiting seven new members that engages in financial, marketing, and operational.
This Tasikmalaya-born woman admitted that she was inspired by a start-up in Indonesia called Traveloka which successfully disrupts travel agency business. “I try to look for disruptable business that will sustain as long as life goes, wedding,” explained Aninda.
Canika has earned several achievements, starting with their success as best project in LMP subject, continued on February 2019 with their participation in Young Entrepreneur Summit UI Studentpreneur 2019, and currently receiving funding and mentorship from Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education in a program called Technology Base Start-up in Higher Educations (CPPBT-PT). The amount of funding reaches hundred million rupiahs.
To be granted with this funding, Aninda and friends on Canika competed with other teams coming from various backgrounds, including graduates of master’s degree and academicians. They successfully passed the selection phases such as administration, presentation, and interview.
Plus Points of Canika
On their newest release, Canika provides nine wedding categories: venue, wedding dress, cars, makeup artist, catering, decoration, invitation, photographer and videographer, and florist. Vendors do not need to worry about cost because joining Canika is free. Also, vendors and users can interact through Canika’s in-app chat. They can also negotiate about the price. To complete the convenience in transaction, Canika provides various payment methods.
Aninda hopes this project that she started on January 2018 can sustain, or even become decacorn start-up. She also hopes Canika can help improve sales of many SMEs businesses. Canika is available on Playstore.
