BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – To encourage children to read, ITB students from the KU4093 course (Character Education) organized a fun learning program and maximized the learning facilities for the children of RW 03 Cilengkrang Village on Saturday (15/4/2023). The project was initiated by Group 1 of the course which was led by Fayza Anissa (TM '21).

The group leader, Fayza, recognized the lack of educational guidance for the children despite their high enthusiasm for learning. Thus, her group Surveyed the village and found that the provided educational facilities and necessities were still minimal. “We took the initiative to establish a mini library to enhance the children's learning activities. We also introduced fun learning methods to prevent boredom during their studies. We aim to cultivate their interest in reading through this library."

During the implementation, the group was assisted by the locals who manage the village’s places of worship. Together, they conducted the learning program, which approximately 50 children attended.

The “Fun Learning” program consisted of five main activities: reading, writing, counting, drawing, and singing sessions. In each session, children were encouraged to participate in an exciting way so that the teaching session was not monotonous, and all topics were conveyed effectively. Between each session, participants who completed the challenges given by the committee were given appreciation. The children were very enthusiastic about joining the sessions.

Moreover, the group established a mini library in the village and introduced its collection of books to the children, with the hopes of sparking their interest in reading.

The group consistently coordinated with the village residents to ensure the project went smoothly. Furthermore, they entrust various items, such as cleaning tools, trash cans, stationery, and drawing tools, to the residents, allowing the children to continue their studies even after the program is finished.

Group 1 hopes that the children of Cilengkrang Village can use the mini library effectively and enhance their passion for learning later. By maximizing the available facilities, the children can be more motivated to learn and gain more knowledge about the world. The group also hopes that the children can become successors and make great contributions to their village’s development of the village and nation in the future.
