BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Three students from the Geological Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology (FITB), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), have once again achieved national recognition by winning 1st Place in the Smart Competition PRIME 2026, organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter, University of Brawijaya. Fayza Ananda Syahda Damanik, Hafizh Tanfidzi Zein, and Radja Pasha Agusral, who are part of Team Ozymandias, outperformed numerous competing teams after going through a series of rigorous competition stages on Saturday (18/04/2026).

This year, PRIME 2026 carried the theme “Equipping Adaptable Engineers to Tackle Evolving Energy Challenges through Advanced and Environmentally-Responsible Petroleum Strategies”. The theme highlights the importance of developing adaptable and knowledgeable individuals capable of addressing evolving energy challenges through mastery of geoscience, modern oil and gas technologies, and the implementation of advanced yet environmentally responsible exploration and production strategies.

This quiz-based competition is designed to measure and enhance students’ intellectual capabilities, particularly in the energy sector, with a focus on oil and gas. “This competition serves as a platform for students to test their conceptual understanding, analytical skills, and quick thinking in solving energy-related problems within limited time, with each stage strengthening both theoretical knowledge and competitive strategy,” said Hafizh Tanfidzi.

Team Ozymandias revealed that their success was driven by strong teamwork and effective study strategies. They divided the competition topics evenly among team members and held intensive discussion sessions several days prior to the competition to review and test each other’s understanding. Additionally, in-game strategy played a crucial role in maximizing their score.

“We usually divide the topics, then gather to review and quiz each other. During the competition, strategy is also important to minimize lost points and maximize our overall score,” he added.

Beyond the achievement, the team also found the experience highly memorable. They expressed their excitement not only in competing but also in enjoying their time in Malang. This achievement is expected to inspire other ITB students to continue developing their potential and actively participate in various competitions at both national and international levels.
