Description
As the Maritime Continent, Indonesia has particular characteristics and roles for the surrounding climate. The thermohaline circulation flows through the Indonesian Archipelago from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, known as the Indonesian Throughflow. It governs the environment for the West Pacific and East Indian regions. The El Nino Southern Oscillation, Indian Ocean Dipole, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and Madden Julian Oscillation modulate the complexity of Ocean–Atmosphere interaction of the region. Indonesia also has the longest volcano-magnetic and most complex seismic path.
Research Topics
Based on the challenge explained, but not limiting the study to a global scale, The study program offers three main focuses in Earth Science: Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, and Seismology.
Career Prospect
The alumni of the study program are mostly developing and establishing careers in related fields, mainly in governmental institutions like the National Research and Innovation Agency, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Bureau, Centre of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation, the Universities, Sensors, and Equipment for Earth Science Companies, and Consultant Services for the private sectors. Entrepreneurship and international exposure are included within the study program using exchange students, summer courses, and inbound/outbound programs with overseas partner Universities.
