Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro


Prof. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro, S.E., M.U.P., Ph.D. born in Jakarta, October 3, 1966. He received an honorary doctorate from ITB in 2021 in the field of Regional and City Development. The title was given for contributing innovative works and ideas on decentralization and economic development of regions and cities in Indonesia. His contributions are expressed in a number of scientific works in various national and international journals. Apart from these things, Prof. Bambang Brodjonegoro also actively contributes in various ways, including facilitating research related to the procurement of the Red and White vaccine, the establishment of the SDGs Network at ITB, and initiating the improvement of the "Financial System Safety Net" to deal with the financial crisis.


Nyoman Nuarta


Nyoman Nuarta was born in Tabanan, November 14, 1951. Nyoman Nuarta's work in implementing the concept of culturepreneur and his approach in realist-figurative language in the development of the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Culture Park masterpiece in Bali is one proof of his real contribution to the field of art which has become Indonesian pride. A total of 66 works of public sculpture have been installed throughout Indonesia, and one is at OPEC's headquarters in Manila. Nyoman Nuarta has held 20 national exhibitions and 29 international exhibitions. He has also been entered into exhibitions with the highest reputation in the world, namely one Biennale and three Triennales. He received an honorary doctorate from ITB in 2021 in the field of art because of his outstanding reputation and pioneering work in the field, and his academic contributions to ITB.


Raden Muhamad Samsudin Dajat Hardjakusumah (Sam Bimbo)


Raden Muhamad Samsudin Dajat Hardjakusumah or better known as Sam, was born in Kuningan, May 6, 1942. He graduated from Fine Arts ITB in 1968. Sam Bimbo's achievements and prestige in painting are evident from the exhibitions he has held. Sam has experience holding solo exhibitions in Indonesia (1970, 1992, and 2007) and Bangkok (1971). He is active in music with the Bimbo group, thus making his name known as Sam Bimbo. More than 50 years of work, Sam Bimbo has produced around 800 songs in 200 albums. He has also won 12 gold discs, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NET 4.0 Indonesian Choice Awards 2017, and a Legend Award from Anugerah Musik Indonesia. Sam was awarded an honorary doctorate in the field of Arts and Religion by ITB in 2021.



Prof. Ben L. Feringa


Prof. Ben Feringa was born in Barger-Compascuum, The Netherlands, in 1951. He entered the University of Groningen, Netherlands, in 1969, for Master degree, and took his Ph.D. program in the same university in 1974, under supervision of Prof. Hans Wijnberg. In these programmes, Ben worked on several organic synthetic projects on asymetric synthesis, and more importantly on preparation of chiral compounds - and hence optically actives – of alkene derivatives. Later these compounds are called “chiral overcrowded alkenes”. It is clearly that from the beginning of his career, Prof. Ben Feringa interested with stereochemistry. Prof. Ben Feringa also received honorary and prestigious positions in a number of societies across European countries.




Dr. Ir. Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono, M.Sc.


Dr. Ir. Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono, M.Sc. is the minister of Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR) at the Kabinet Indonesia Maju President Joko Widodo since October 23, 2019. He was born in Surakarta on November 5, 1954 and completed his undergraduate education in the Department of Geological Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada in 1979, and completed Masters and Doctoral education in Civil Engineering in 1989 and 1992 at the Colorado State Universiy, United States in the field of water resources prioritization. In 2019, Dr. Basuki Hadimuljono received an Engineer certificate from the ITB Engineer Professional Study Program.


Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, SE


Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, SE or familiarly called JK is the vice president of Indonesia period 2004-2009 and period 2014-2019. The man who was born on May 15th 1942 in Watampone, North Sulawesi, is the second of 17 children. In 1977. During his youth, Kalla spent a lot of time organizing youth organizations such as Indonesian Islamic students (PII), chairman of HMI, chairman of the Indonesian Student Action Union (KAMI), chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and chairman of the Alumni family in University of Hassanudin.
His career in politics began in 1965 when JK was elected as the head of the South Sulawesi youth Sekber. Then he was elected as a member of the DPRD-South Sulawesi in 1965-1968, members of the MPR in 1982-1987, Minister of Industry and Trade in 1999-2000 and the Minister of People's Welfare of Indonesia during the leadership of the 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri. After several years in his role as minister, he resigned and choose to be Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s vice president. In 2014, he was re-nominated as Jokowi’s vice president.

Ir. Hatta Rajasa


Dr. (HC) Ir.Hatta Rajasa (born December 18th, 1953) was a politician and bureaucrat who acted for 15 years since 2001. He had several positions in ministerial level from Minister of Research and Technology (Menristek) and Head of Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (2007-2009), Minister of Transportation (Menhub) (2004-2007), Minister of state secretariat (Mensesneg) (2007-2009), and Coordinating Minister for economic affair (2009-2014).
He who was graduated from Petroleum Engineering ITB year 1973 got the title because of his contribution on developing public policy in Indonesia. He was considered to realize connectivity in Indonesia through impacful public policy when he was minister. ITB awarded him Doctor Honoris Cause on November 25th, 2019.


Ir. Theodore Permadi Rachmat


Theodore Permadi Rachmat (Oei Giok Eng) (born in Kadipaten, Majalengka, 15 December 1943; age 75 years) or better known as TP Rachmat is a businessman from Indonesia. He is a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Initially he was known for his role as chairman of the Astra Group. He began his career as an Astra salesman in 1968, after he graduated, he entered as the 15th employee. In 1972, he was entrusted with starting his job managing United Tractors (an Astra subsidiary engaged in heavy equipment) until 2005.
After Astra, he founded his own company, Triputra Group, which operates in several fields such as processed rubber, coal, trade, manufacturing, agribusiness, motorcycle dealerships and logistics in October 1998. In addition, along with Edwin Soeryadjaya, his cousin, he was involved in raising a coal mining company in Kalimantan, PT Adaro Energy. In 2014, Forbes ranked Theodore Permadi Rachmat as the 14th richest person in Indonesia.


Dra. Nurhayati Subakat, Apt.


Nurhayati Subakat is a cosmetics entrepreneur from Indonesia. She is the founder of PT Pusaka Tradisi Ibu which has now been transformed into PT Paragon Technology and Innovation, which manages Wardah cosmetics (2002-2003), Make Over (2003), and Putri and IX hair care. She was born in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, July 27, 1950. In 1985, she started his business from a home industry by producing Putri shampoo line. After the successful first product, she set up factories in Cibodas and Tangerang. Besides shampoo, now her products also include skin care and make-up equipment. She was given the award by ITB at 5th April 2019.


Prof. Finn Erling Kydland


Finn Erling Kydland is a Norwegian economist known for his contributions to business cycle theory. He is the Henley Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also holds the Richard P. Simmons Distinguished Professorship at the Tepper School of Business of Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned his Ph.D., and a part-time position at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). Kydland was a co-recipient of the 2004 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics, with Edward C. Prescott, "for their contributions to dynamic macroeconomics: the time consistency of economic policy and the driving forces behind business cycles." He was born in 1st December 1943, and was given the award from ITB at 27th February 2019.


Prof. Peter Agre


Prof. Peter Agre is an American physician and molecular biologist. He was born on January, 30th 1949 in Northfield, Minnesota. Agre received his bachelor degree in Chemistry from Augsburg College in Minneapolis and his master's degree from John Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. In 2003, he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discoveries concerning channels in cell membranes. He also receives many others professional awards such as Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at John Hopkins University, elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences (2000) , the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2003), American Philosophical Society in 2004, the National Academy of Medicine (2005), and American Society for Microbiology (2005) and Honorary Doctor from ITB (2017) for his dedication in Biochemistry and contribution to humanity.


Prof.Dr.H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono


Prof.Dr.H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is a politician and also an army general who was the president of Indonesia from 2004 - 2014. He was born on September, 9th 1949 in Pacitan, East Java. When he was in fifth grade, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy (AKABRI) and inspired to be a soldier. Since his father is also an Indonesian army, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono planned to join Indonesian Armed Forces Academy right after he graduates high school. During his education in Indonesian Armed Forces Academy, he receives an Adhi Makayasa award which is given to the best graduate of the year. Because of his high education and his well planned mannouver, he expands his career in politics as a Minister of Mining and Energy, Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Affairs, Leader of the Democratic Party, and last is being the 6th President of Indonesia.


Dr (HC) Ir. Arifin Panigoro


Dr (HC) Ir. Arifin Panigoro is one of ITB alumni who successfully runs a business in the oil and gas industry. He graduates from Electrical Engineering ITB in 1973 and ran his first business, CV. Corona which focusing in electrical installation. During 1979-1981, the oil industry began to boom in Indonesia. Arifin saw that this was a good opportunity and began to establish a local company in the oil and gas field called MEDCO. Now, MEDCO has become an integrated business, starting from oil and gas exploration and production, drilling services, methanol production, LPG, and Power Generation. It is also not only operated in Indonesia, but has been spread in various countries such as Cambodia, Middle East, Mexico Gulf, etc.


Prof.Dr. Emil Salim


Emil Salim and environment seems to be inseparable. Emil Salim is an Indonesian economist, intellectual and former politician. Salim graduated from Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia in 1959. He obtained a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and returned to Indonesia to a teaching position in University of Indonesia. In 1977, he was appointed to the position of professor of economic development at the University of Indonesia. He helped establish the foundation of Indonesian economy system, and later trusted to lead the first Ministry of Environment in Indonesia. He also contributed in the creation of UU No. 4/1982 about the core regulations of environmental issues. This law became the first law concerning environmental issues. He always fights for sustainable development in Indonesia, to harmonize nation development with environmental issues, and economy with ecology. His huge contribution in international development gets him awarded with many prestigious prize. He was a Zayed Prize awardee for his action that gives great positive impact to society. He was also awarded the Blue Planet Prize by Asahi Glass, an award for people who contributed greatly to the environment. He also got The Leader for the Living Planet Award from WWF for his dedication, leadership, and contribution to his great effort in the conservation of environment and sustainable development.


Dr.Ir. Hartarto Sastrosoenarto


Dr.Ir. Hartarto Sastrosoenarto was the former Minister of Industry in New Order era. As Minister of Industry, he developed and strengthened chemical and fertilizer industry in Indonesia, and as a result, many chemical factories emerge. Dr. Ir. Hartarto Sastrosoenarto pioneered the creation of UU No. 5/1984, a law to develop industry. He became the Minister of Industry for two periods, and successfully raised the contribution of industry sector to total national GDP to 28%. Dr. Ir. Hartarto Sastrosoenarto was known to be a hard worker with a vision to make Indonesia's industry independent, and was often called as 'Father of Indonesian Industry.'


Dr. Soetarjo Sigit


Dr. Soetarjo Sigit is one of the most important figures in the development of Indonesian mining industry. He highly contributed to the development of mining in Indonesia. In the midst of Sukarno's doubts about the development of the mining sector, Sigit assured the huge potential of mineral and coal mining for the Indonesian economy. In 1967 he started the Contract of Work (Kontrak Karya) system. Then in 1975 he accelerated the growth pace of Indonesian coal mining industry by spawning a Coal Mining Concession Cooperation Agreement. Dr. Soetarjo Sigit's vast knowledge and expertise of Indonesian mining world made him known as "the living dictionary of the Indonesian mineral industry in the last 50 years" among his colleagues. Even though he had retired as Director General of General Mining at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Dr. Soetarjo Sigit is still keen to bridge the interests of the government with mining industry investors. He was also the founder and first chairman of Indonesian Association of Geologists (IAGI). He passed away in 2014, but his legacy will always be remembered.


Dr.Ir.Sedyatmo


Prof. Dr. Ir. R. M. Sedyatmo is one of the leading Indonesian civil engineers, intellectuals, practitioners, scientists and professors of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). He was born on October 24, 1909. He graduated from ITB in 1934. In 1962, Sedyatmo is widely known as the inventor of the "Pondasi Cakar Ayam". The advantages of this system have received international recognition as well as getting patents from 11 countries. The discovery that can be applied in difficult natural conditions with a simple, fast, labor-intensive and inexpensive working system proves that in producing Sedyatmo's innovative works, he always puts forward intuition and careful observation of the natural surroundings. Because of his works and services, ITB awarded him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in the Science of Engineering for his services as an engineer in 1974.


Prof. Dr. Ir. J. Rooseno


Prof. Dr. Ir Roosseno who was born on August 2, 1908 is a pioneer of concrete construction in Indonesia. The name Roosseno has always been associated with Indonesian civil engineering. He was the master translator of the drawings and designs of the building designers in the form and structure of his time. Roosseno graduated from ITB in 1932. He began his career with entrepreneurship in Bandung by establishing the Roosseno and Soekarno Engineer Bureau (RI's first President) on Jalan Banceuy in 1933. During President Soeharto's reign, Roosseno was trusted to handle large projects such as the restoration of the Borobudur Temple and the completion of the Istiqlal Mosque. In 1962, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia awarded Satya Badge for his services to build the Senayan Asian Games Complex. Another award was Doctor Honoris Causa for engineering which he received from ITB in 1977. In July 1984, Roosseno received Bintang Mahaputra Utama from the government given directly by President Soeharto. The predicate of Bapak Beton Indonesia is given to Roosseno. He has been involved in many important projects in Indonesia. Even though he is gone, his services and works will always be remembered.


Dr.Ir. Soekarno


Dr. Ir. H. Soekarno is the first President of the Republic of Indonesia who served in the period 1945-1967. He graduated from ITB in 1926. He has contributed to the process and inspired the Indonesian Engineer Corps to compete in participating in national development, he has been pioneering and leading the realization of vital projects by conducting proper evaluations. Other than that, he has contributed to the planning and implementation of the National Monument which is built at Merdeka Square in the Capital. He, as an architect engineer, bring to life an atmosphere of modern engineering, in which technicians, especially engineers, have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and experience in new technical issues. Because of his works and services, he receives Doctor Honoris Causa for different fields of study. ITB decided to give him the title Doctor Honoris Causa in Engineering on January 27, 1962.
