BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Students of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) have once again demonstrated their dedication to technological advancement through the Dagozilla ITB team, which operates under the ITB Robotics Unit. The team is preparing to compete in the 2025 Indonesian Wheeled Soccer Robot Contest (KRSBI Beroda), a prestigious event within the Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) under the Indonesian Robot Competition (LRI), showcasing increasingly sophisticated robotics innovations.

Dagozilla ITB has developed a fully autonomous wheeled soccer robot. By implementing Robot Operating System (ROS) technology which is often used in the robotics industry, the team has succeeded in creating a robot that is able to detect the ball, dribble, and kick with precision. This year, the focus of development includes the dribbler system, control optimization, and increasing the accuracy of the vision system using the YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm for real-time object detection .

The robot localization system is also continuously improved through the implementation of depth camera sensors and the development of machine learning-based software to improve the intelligence of the game strategy. "We are not here as soccer players, but as coaches who create a system so that robots can play automatically," said Rimba Harits Hartanto (Engineering Physics, 2022), head of the Dagozilla ITB team when interviewed on Friday (17/1/2025).

Dagozilla is known not only as an accomplished robotics team, but also as an inclusive community that feels like family. Team members come from various departments at ITB, creating a rich multidisciplinary collaboration. Starting from mechanical, electrical, programming , to managerial development, all members contribute according to their expertise.
"In this team, I can apply the things I learned in college to solve real problems, especially technical skills that are relevant to my major," said Rubi Naufal Tiandito (Electrical Engineering, 2022), vice team leader of Dagozilla ITB. Despite often facing challenges, such as limited funds and tight schedules, the collective spirit and love for robotics keep Dagozilla moving forward.

Behind the moments of struggle their backstage journey holds several motivational stories. One incident that tested their resilience was when the robot's voltage reduction module caught fire in the middle of the night. " Luckily we had a spare. I woke up and fixed it right away," Rimba recalled.
Late-night intensive training and pulling all-nighters in the lab are routine before the competition. However, the team maintains balance by celebrating small successes, such as enjoying pizza together. All of this shows that behind the research and technology, there is a strong solidarity.

Dagozilla ITB recognizes robotics as an emerging scientific field which brings value to multiple industrial domains. This team strives to enhance Indonesia's standing in global robotics through their innovations because they achieved a top 8 finish at the international RoboCup Middle Size League (MSL) competition.
As a closing message, Rimba reminded the importance of perseverance and collaboration. "Robotics isn't just about technology, it's about patience and teamwork. It's a constantly evolving field, and we're proud to be part of this journey."
