The Graduate School of Multidisciplinary Science and Technology

The Graduate School of Multidisciplinary Science and Technology (SPITM), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), was established in Bandung on June 1, 2025, as part of ITB’s institutional transformation. SPITM was developed from the ITB Graduate School, which had played a key role in the administration of postgraduate education from 1920 to 2025.

As one of ITB’s Schools, SPITM is specifically responsible for providing and advancing multidisciplinary education to address the evolving challenges of science and technology as well as increasingly complex societal needs that span multiple fields of knowledge.

In delivering its academic programs, SPITM directly manages Type A Multidisciplinary Study Programs and coordinates Type B Multidisciplinary Study Programs, which are collaboratively delivered by more than one Faculty or School within ITB.

Type A Multidisciplinary Study Programs

For Type A Multidisciplinary Study Programs, SPITM has direct responsibility for the management and development of the programs. This includes curriculum development, the delivery of teaching and learning activities, academic and student affairs management, resource development, and the strengthening of partnerships and innovation in multidisciplinary education.

The Type A Multidisciplinary Study Programs offered by SPITM include:

  1. Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Nanotechnology
  2. Master’s Program in Systems Intelligence
  3. Master’s Program in Technoculture
Type B Multidisciplinary Study Programs

For Type B Multidisciplinary Study Programs, SPITM serves as a coordinator and liaison among the participating Faculties and Schools to ensure that each program is delivered in an integrated manner. Its role includes facilitating academic and governance coordination, program and curriculum development, student admissions, academic and student services, and the development of collaborative programs with the participating Faculties and Schools.

  5. Master’s Program in Battery Materials
  6. Master’s Program in Disaster Management
  7. Master’s Program in Sustainable Biodiversity-Based Tourism
  8. Master’s Program in Design Leadership
  9. Master’s Program in Digital Media Design
  10. Master’s Program in Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Construction
  11. Master’s Program in Sustainable Building Design and Construction

SPITM therefore serves as the principal academic unit for the administration, development, and coordination of multidisciplinary education at ITB, both through the direct management of Type A Multidisciplinary Study Programs and through its coordinating role in Type B Multidisciplinary Study Programs. This role is intended to ensure that multidisciplinary education at ITB is delivered in an integrated, high-quality, innovative, and responsive manner, in line with advances in science and technology and the increasingly complex challenges faced by society.

Engineer Professional Program

In addition to multidisciplinary education, SPITM also administers ITB’s Engineer Professional Program (Program Profesi Insinyur/PPI). In delivering the program, SPITM actively develops partnerships in professional engineering education with various institutions and stakeholders from industry, state-owned enterprises, and government agencies, including ministries, non-ministerial government institutions, and defense institutions.

The ITB Engineer Professional Program is designed not only to fulfill professional engineering education requirements and enable graduates to obtain an Engineer Professional Certificate from ITB, but also to support the application process for the Professional Engineer Competency Certificate (Sertifikat Kompetensi Insinyur Profesional/SKIP) at the IPP, IPM, and IPU levels, as well as the Engineer Registration Certificate (Surat Tanda Registrasi Insinyur/STRI), through the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia/PII).
