BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - ITB successfully made it to the fifth place with 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 4 bronze medals at the 29th PIMNAS, which was held on Monday-Friday (07-12/08/16) at IPB. On this occasion, ICHAS team won the silver medal for best presentation in PKM-KC (Program KreativitasMahasiswa - KaryaCipta) category. ICHAS team consisted of BintangAlfianNurRachman (Geological Engineering 2012), DzulkhiYudhaPratama (Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering 2012), FatihAkbarulIrsan (Geological Engineering 2013), Syauqi Abdurrahman Abrori (Physics Engineering 2013), andArdindaKartikaningtyas (Physics Engineering 2013).
The 29th PIMNAS held at IPB was the peak event of Program KreativitiasMahasiswa which began in September 2016. PKM was divided to 5 main areas and 2 additional fields, where students could register their teams in the field they had interest in.
Early Development of ICHAS

Development idea for ICHAS (Integrated Carbon Dioxide Hazard Alarm System) was based on carbon dioxide gas poisoning incident in the crater of Mount Dieng.Departing from this case, ICHAS team was inspired to build a device which would be able to integrate CO2 detector, evacuation system, and monitoring system.
Development process of ICHAS was executed by the topography analysis of the crater of Mount Dieng, flow direction of carbon dioxide gas, and pattern of wind direction in the crater of Mount Dieng area. ICHAS was supervised by a lecturer of Geological Engineering Department, Dr. I GustiBagus Eddy Sucipta, S.T, M.T. "Aside from ideas, Mr. Eddy kept encouraging us to resolve and complete ICHAS," Alfian said.

Unexpected Outcome

The struggle to achieve silver medal in the 29th PIMNAS was not easy for ICHAS team. They needed go through several phases before PIMNAS. ICHAS team started their team journey from the initial registration stage, assembly process, until Monev (Monitoring and Evaluation) phase in May 2016.
In addition, the device assembly process was not a simple issue. ICHAS device was shaped similar to a house model with 3 pillars which were 2 meters high. Its construct caused the lack of portability. ICHAS device also had some issues and difficult times to integrate each of its components. Nevertheless, this problem did not lessen the spirit of the team to complete the device, which was targeted to be finished in 5 months.

At the 29th PIMNAS, ICHAS team registered as PKM-KC participants. As many as 84 of 148 teams sent by universities that enroll in PKM-KC were divided to 4 classes. Each of the classes had 3 medals to compete for in presentation field and poster field. After going through a long journey, ICHAS team won the silver medal in presentation field.
After PIMNAS ended, ICHAS team admitted that they were really happy for the achievement. "Thank you for all people who helped us to win the silver medal. Thank you for Mr. Eddy, our family, friends, and Satgas 29th PIMNAS of KM-ITB who always gave us their support and blessing," Alfian said. In addition, ICHAS team hoped the device could be immediately used in the crater of Mount Dieng and be beneficial for the community.
