BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Entering 51 years of service, the ITB Visual Communication Design Study Program (VCD) has made numerous contributions to the field of design, both nationally and internationally. This year, all academicians and alumni gathered to celebrate their achievements in the last five decades.

The event “Five Decades of ITB DKV” raised the theme "From Visual Communication Design for Greater Indonesia" and was held at the ITB CADL Building on Saturday (4/3/2023).

The chairman of the celebration, Triyadi Guntur Wiratmo, S.Sn., M.Sn., explained that this event is not only to commemorate the DKV education at ITB but also to celebrate its development and contribution to Indonesia.

The 50th anniversary of the study program is a milestone in ITB FAD, with the program as a leading academic and cultural movement. Guntur emphasized that this momentum is a reaffirmation of the role, vision, and mission of DKV in Indonesia's education and development in the future. Therefore, the celebration involves collaboration with academic communities, alumni, institutions, and other stakeholders from both government and private sectors.

The event will take place from March to September 2023 with gatherings, exhibitions, discussions, seminars, and conferences held on a national to international scale.

"We are grateful to this day that we are given the strength and ability to continue the spirit of our predecessors. This is done by remapping the role and position of the study program in the social and educational development of its study in Indonesia," he said.

The philosophy of the anniversary is outlined in the logo created by Henricus Kusbiantoro, an alumnus in ’93. The logo is inspired by the slinky toy, reflecting flexibility and persistence. According to him, the toy that can stretch and return to its original form is in line with the works of the alumni who continue to create tirelessly from generation to generation. Such spirit is the very soul that is being conveyed throughout the commemoration: striving continuously to prosper society with innovation after innovation.

The Dean of ITB FAD, Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, S.Sn., M.Sn., admitted that the contribution and pioneering of the people in the last 50 years has meant a lot for the development of design in Indonesia. Moreover, ITB VCD continues to update its system from time to time.

The next challenge that must be faced is how to build ITB DKV’s contribution in the next 50 years to be better than before. To achieve this goal, there need to be collaborations with alumni, industries, and professional associations to map its future contribution to the nation and humanity.

"This 50th anniversary is meant to gather all the strength of alumni, lecturers, and students to pledge their commitment in the next 50 years. From here on, we can collaborate with alumni and go further as a pioneer in the design discipline and community welfare," Dr. Rikrik declared.
