CIREBON, itb.ac.id – The Commissariat of the Mining Student Association at Institut Teknologi Bandung (Komisariat HMT-ITB) organized a community service program, HMT Mengabdi, in Geyongan Village, Arjawinangun District, Cirebon Regency.

Held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, the program involved various stakeholders, including Geyongan Village officials, students from SDN 1 Geyongan, and geophysical professionals.

The initiative aimed to help address the issue of clean water availability in Geyongan Village while also raising students' awareness of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS).

Geyongan Village was selected for this community service based on social mapping conducted the previous year, which identified key social challenges in villages surrounding the ITB Cirebon campus.

The activity began with a geo-electric survey to map potential clean water sources at several strategic locations in the village. The survey involved professionals working alongside students from the HMT-ITB Commissariat.

"We hope this survey serves as a first step in providing solutions for the residents' day-to-day clean water needs," said activity coordinator Raihan Nashwan.

Additionally, the HMT-ITB Commissariat team educated students at SDN 1 Geyongan on the importance of PHBS. Participants learned about the dangers of waste to health and the environment, as well as proper personal hygiene practices. Following the session, the team distributed books and stationery to support children's education in the village.

"We hope this donation will motivate the children to keep their enthusiasm for learning despite limited facilities," said team member Septio Adi.

The event concluded with a meal shared among students, village officials, and the community service team.

"We are very grateful for the initiative of ITB students in addressing the challenges in our village. We hope the survey results will be followed up to provide real solutions for the community," said village resident Pak Subroto.

One of the participants, Anggian I. Krisna, shared, "This activity is very meaningful, especially because we can make a direct impact on the community while learning to overcome real-world challenges. We hope the HMT-ITB Commissariat continues to contribute to solving social problems in the future."

Through this initiative, the HMT-ITB Commissariat hopes to bring tangible benefits to the Geyongan Village community and inspire more individuals to actively engage in community service.
