ISO Concert Da Capo: Explore the Music Through Time

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - ITB Student Orchestra (ISO) held the fifth concert titled 'Da Capo: Glimpses of the Past "on Saturday (16/04/12). Located at Indoor Theatre, Dago Tea House, this concert brings various songs from time to time in collaboration with the Marching Band waditra Ganesha (MBWG) and Student Choir of ITB.
Different from previous concerts, this concert presents the music presented without any sound system loudspeakers. The sound produced from the purely orchestral instruments, using sound waves reflecting the use of reflectors. Those reflectors are made by some scholars of Technical Physics under the guidance of Dr. I Nyoman Gde Komang Merthayasa, M.Eng.
In accordance with the meaning of the concert's title that is 'back to the beginning', a variety of songs from the era prior to modern times played at this concert. The concert was divided into two sessions, in the first session the orchestra played classical music and then played the popular songs in the the second session. Winter, 1st Movement, the work of composer Antonio Vivaldi served as a concert opener featuring Arya Pugala Kitti (Chemistry 2008) as a violin soloist.
In the second session, PSM and MBWG came up with the song 'Ibu Kita Kartini' as an opener. Following the works of The Beatles and Elvis Presley who had been re-arranged, a medley of songs such as Vina Panduwinata titled 'Burung Camar', 'Di Dadaku', and 'Surat Cinta', The Britney Symphony, as well as the works of Michael Jackson. In that opportunity, the orchestra also played an arrangement in memory of legendary musicians Indonesia, Chrisye.
Rahmi Kesuma Ward (Visual Communication Design 2010) later appeared singing 'The Tale of a Red Rose', a re-arrangement of a dangdut song titled 'Sekuntum Mawar Merah'. The Tale of a Red Rose is followed with songs from famous dangdut musician, Rhoma Irama, sung by Dionysius Sundoro (Chemical Engineering 2010), who then sang several songs dangdut other arrangements with Lalita Fitrianti.
Medley of dangdut songs as a successful closing of this second session filled with audience's laughter because of the witty arrangements and performances of the players who participated swaying and swinging the bow of each instrument in accordance with the rhythm of dangdut. The audience burssted into laughter increasingly watching the conductor did the dangdut dance with gold fabric attributes while conducting the orchestra.
"The concert was very good and really entertaining, especially the lid. The element of surprise really made this concert to a climax and success," said Putu Fedri Krisnakusuma, one of the spectators.
The entire audience gave a very rousing applause for the success of ISO concert this time, not even the few who gave a standing ovation and called out asking for more songs. "Three hours of pleasant musical journey. Hopefully I can watch the next concert," said Redy Panggabean, one of the connoisseurs of orchestral music.
