ITB and Singapore Management University (SMU) Collaborate in the Field of Education, Research, and Student Exchange

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) established a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Singapore Management University (SMU). The cooperation agreement was signed by ITB Chancellor, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., with SMU President, Professor Lilly Kong, Thursday (1/10/2020) virtually.


Apart from signing the MoU, on this occasion a dialogue was also held between the President of SMU and the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim. This dialogue aimed to share the vision and programs from the Minister of Education and Culture related to education in Indonesia, one of which was the Kampus Merdeka. Also related to the government's plan to carry out learning and teaching activities online during the pandemic.

Professor Kong said that the MoU which was carried out by SMU was not only with ITB but also with the Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Gadjah Mada. She explained that the MoU and academic collaboration is a form of commitment of SMU and universities in Indonesia in producing human resource development who are ready to face global challenges and citizens responsible through collaboration in the education sector.

“In the field of research, we are looking forward to exploring potential collaborations in three areas, which are digital transformation, sustainable living, and growth in Asia,” she said. She hopes that this collaboration can support the Minister of Education and Culture program in the field of education.

ITB Chancellor, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., in her speech said that SMU and ITB had collaborated since 2007, specifically with the School of Business and Management ITB. The collaboration involved faculty or school members and students from both universities, who are members of the cross-cultural community development program. “Other initiatives have also been attempted, including initiatives that are being developed with LPIK (Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development) ITB, but because of the pandemic, it must be postponed,” said the Chancellor.

On this occasion, the Chancellor said that ITB is an adaptive and learner organization. In its 100 year journey, ITB has long been established as a leading institution in advancing science, technology, arts, as well as social and humanities. Alumni are the pride of ITB, including the youth and sport service in Singapore, who continue to share significant values ??and contributions to the development of Indonesia and international networks.

“With the spirit of friendship and professionalism, we hope to work with SMU to create concrete joint initiatives. Student exchanges, internships, double degree programs are some examples. Both ITB and SMU have strong programs in the fields of business, management and information systems,” Prof. Reini explained.

The scope of the MoU includes programs for academic and non-academic staff, student exchange, joint research programs, and other cooperation agreed upon by both parties.
