ITB Confers Honorary Doctor Degree to M. Basuki Hadimuljono

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Confers Honorary Doctor Degree (Honoris Causa) to Dr. Ir. Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono, M.Sc., in the field of development, construction and management of infrastructures, specifically in the field of water resources and aseismic infrastructures.

The Honorary Doctor Degree was conferred in Open Session of Institut Teknologi Bandung held on Thursday (1/16/2020) at Aula Barat of ITB, Jalan Ganesa No. 10, Bandung.

Head of the Promoter Team Prof. Ir. Indratmo Soekarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., said ITB confers the Honorary Doctor Degree as an acknowledgement and honor to a person who is proven to give real, prominent contribution and significant impact to advancement of science, technology, and arts for development of the nation’s culture and humanity.

“With the conferment of this Honorary Doctor, ITB hopes to encourage communities and people of Indonesia to make achievement and give contribution to development of science and technology, arts, and humanity,” Prof. Indratmo explained in Promoter’s Speech.

As explained by Prof. Indratmo, Dr. M. Basuki Hadimuljono plays significant role in the field of water resource and aseismic infrastructures. He also finished a number of complex infrastructure constructions during his service.

“Construction of infrastructures has caused not only enhancement of development equity and reduced regional disparity, but also growth in economy, job markets, and nation’s competitiveness,” Prof. Indratmo said.

In the effort to enhance quality of higher education, Dr. Basuki has built infrastructures in ITB Jatinangor Campus. Moreover, Dr. M. Basuki Hadimuljono has received several awards and accolades, including from ITB namely Ganesha Praja Manggala Bakti Adiutama ITB in 2017.

For all his achievements and contributions in the field of construction, development, and infrastructure management in Indonesia, specifically in the field of water resources and aseismic infrastructures, Promoter Team believe that Dr. M. Basuki Hadimuljono has produced real works which bring positive impact for the prosperity of the people of Indonesia.

“Therefore, Promoter Team concluded and believe that Dr. Ir. Mochamad Basuki Hadimuljono M.Sc., has fulfilled the Academic Senate requirements to receive the Honorary Doctor Title” said Prof. Indratmo.

On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA., said that the conferment is carried out in the 100th year of ITB as Engineering Higher Education in Indonesia. Dr. M. Basuki Hadimuljono is a civil servant who is very dedicated and hardworking in Department of Public Works and a bureaucrat who is reliable, resilient, and pioneering. At present, Dr. M. Basuki Hadimuljono serves as Minister of Public Works and Public Housing of Indonesia.

ITB is also in gratitude to Ministry of Public Works and Pubic Housing which has done a lot of cooperation with ITB such as construction of educational infrastructures, provision of practical workplace for students, as well as involvement of academic society in a number of activities related to expertise in ITB.

“I hope conferment of honorary doctor such as given to Dr. Basuki Hadimuljono can be an encouragement for future generations to become professional workers, resilient and highly dedicated bureaucrats, as well as strong organizers so as to be able to make real contributions to the welfare of the nation,” concluded Prof. Kadarsah. 

On the open session, Dr. Basuki Hadimuljono delivered a scientific speech titled “Accelerating the Development of Water Resource Infrastructures, Enhancing National Competitiveness”.
