BANDUNG, ITB.ac.id—This year, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) was given the honor of hosting the annual IIE Global E3 Executive Meeting, which this year coincided with its 30th anniversary of the Global Engineering Education Exchange (Global E3) Program. The opening ceremony was held on Sunday, May 19th, 2025, at the International Relations Office (IRO) ITB, Ganesha Campus, Bandung.

Global E3 is an international program under the Institute of International Education (IIE) that brings together engineering education institutions from around the world to build academic partnerships, student exchanges, and research collaborations. With the main theme “Bridging Boundaries, Engineering Futures,” this forum is expected to be a strategic space for formulating a new direction of engineering education that is responsive to global challenges.

The executive meeting was attended by delegates from renowned universities in the United States of America, Europe, and Asia. The participants shared experiences, explored opportunities for cooperation, and developed long-term plans to strengthen the global engineering education ecosystem.

The opening ceremony was opened by Dr. Ir. Endra Gunawan, S.T., M.Sc., Director of the ITB Directorate of Partnership. In his speech, he reaffirmed ITB’s commitment to strengthening academic diplomacy and playing an active role in international networks. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Irwan Meilano, S.T., M.Sc., Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs at ITB, emphasized the importance of partnership that goes beyond simple exchange to include mutual enhancement in knowledge, innovation, and social awareness.

Sylvia S. Jons, M.B.A., Director of the IIE Center for International Partnerships, expressed her appreciation for ITB's support and readiness as a warm and professional host.

In addition to plenary sessions and committee meetings, which were led by Andika Putra Pratama, Ph.D., as the Head of Division of International Collaborative Affairs, this year’s Global E3 agenda also included visits to ITB laboratories, thematic discussions regarding engineering education in the future, and an inter-institutional matching forum. Delegates were also immersed in local cultural experiences, reflecting a commitment to fostering meaningful, human-centered collaboration.

Through this event, ITB hopes to expand its global partnership that has a direct impact on the quality of engineering education in Indonesia, as well as strengthen its role as a key partner in the world’s higher education ecosystem.
