BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) carried out eight actions for handling the Cianjur Earthquake. On Tuesday (22/11/2022), the team consisting of Prof. Dr.Sc. Ir. Andri Dian Nugraha, S.Si., M.Si., Dr. Zulfakriza, S.Si., M.T., and Aditya Lesmana, M.T., assessed the site and established six seismographs to monitor potential aftershocks.
On the same day, the team of Dr. Ing. Andry Widyowijatnoko, S.T, M.T. from ITB SAPPD- represented by Ir. Mipi Ananta Kusuma and Agis Nurholis, S.T. from Rumah Amal Salman- also visited the location in Cianjur.
From observational results of the site, the team planned four temporary shelters as soon as possible, using the Tunnel Shelter method that is made of bamboo. This method is the product of the collaboration with the activist team of ITB Assisted Village in Ciranjang Eko Santoso.
The design of the Tunnel Shelter relies on the availability of local materials such as bamboo with consideration of its construction speed because the damage of houses and infrastructures on the site is very severe, especially in Benjot Village, Cugenang District. Seeing this condition, Prof. Ir. Iswandi Imran, M.A.Sc., Ph.D. from ITB PPMB and his team planned to conduct a field analysis of the vulnerability level of public buildings in Cianjur, so that buildings that are still suitable for use can be used properly again.
Results also revealed that the demand for medicines was quite high, considering the large number of injured victims who needed treatment. Apt. Tomi Hendrayana, S.Si., M.Si. from ITB SF declared his promise to meet the needs of medicines and help with Trauma Healing. Dr. Lulu Lusianti Fitri, M.Sc. from ITB SITH also intends to invite five coaches from ITB who have previous experience in dealing with post-disaster Trauma Healing to help victims of the disaster in several locations.
Responding to the earthquake, ITB Directorate of Student Affairs and ITB NR Dirdik plan to encourage students to contribute to helping the victims of the disaster via assignments and volunteering. ITB NR Ditdik will gather 267 students outside ITB who participated in the Merdeka Belajar program to help.
In addition, ITB KMPA (Nature Conservation Student Association), assisted by Arif Susanto, M.T. from ITB FEST, agreed to provide clean water using IGW Water Ultrafiltration Membrane made by Prof. I Gede Wenten. They also asked for the provision of clean water prepared by Dr. Dwina Roosmini ‘s team (ITB PSLH).
As part of the community service program, ITB Institute for Research and Community Services funds and manages support for assistance on-site with ITB BPUDL. LAPI Foundation has also conveyed its commitment to support the management of the earthquake’s impact in Cianjur carried out by ITB. It is hoped that the synergy done by various communities in ITB can help those affected by the earthquake in Cianjur.
