BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - The ITB Four Horsemen team achieved success at the international 2026 Singapore Business Case Competition (SBCC), organized by the NTU Business Solutions Case Club in collaboration with the NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The team, consisting of Agnes Winona Vania Oey, Claudia Melati Krid, Daffa Mochamad Sabiq, and Leora Josephine Gionina, secured 2nd place in the competition, now in its 17th edition. Agnes, Daffa, and Leora are majoring in Management, while Claudia is majoring in Information Systems.

SBCC 2026 addresses the real-world challenge of entering the pharmaceutical cold chain sector in West Africa, with an emphasis on in-depth analysis and feasibility of implementation. Unlike similar competitions in Indonesia that tend to prioritize frameworks, this competition required participants to present data-driven solutions that could be practically implemented. The judging panel also included professionals from Africa, making the evaluation more contextual and relevant to on-the-ground conditions.

Within this team, each member plays a complementary role. Agnes focuses on problem analysis and solution development. Claudia handles the preparation of the presentation deck while also contributing to the analysis and solutions. Daffa is responsible for the financial aspects, while Leora focuses on solution development and implementation strategies.

Comprehensive Solutions to West Africa’s Logistics Challenges

The main challenge addressed in this competition is the distribution of pharmaceutical products, particularly vaccines in West Africa, which continues to face energy infrastructure limitations, supply chain imbalances, and the proliferation of counterfeit pharmaceutical products. The Four Horsemen team addressed this challenge by designing a multi-layered solution focused on Ghana as a market entry point.

The proposed solution includes the development of a multi-tiered distribution network, ranging from regional hubs serving as primary pharmaceutical warehouses to sub-regional hubs strategically located in remote areas including port zones and northern Ghana—to ensure products can reach regions that have historically been difficult to access. Additionally, the team integrated Singaporean cold chain technology to maintain pharmaceutical product quality throughout the distribution chain, complemented by recommendations for vendors that have been proven and meet field requirements.

What distinguishes this team’s approach from other participants is the recommendation of a market entry strategy through a joint venture. “We were the only team to address the partnership aspect as the key to market entry, and that received special attention from the judging panel,” said Agnes.

Fierce Competition on the International Stage

Competing against teams from Singapore, including the first-place winner from NTU itself, provided an invaluable experience. The first-place team presented a physical prototype and an AI-based demonstration, while Team Four Horsemen presented a solution based on in-depth research and a website as a supporting tool.

Claudia noted a striking difference in presentation style. “In Indonesia, teams giving presentations aren’t usually watched by other teams. Here, it’s the opposite, they listen intently; the content is concise but highly structured and on point,” she said. The Q&A session with the judging panel composed of experts in their fields—was the most nerve-wracking yet memorable moment for the team.

This competition demanded quick adaptation, so major revisions were made right up until the night before the final presentation; the team even studied their script in the car on the way to the venue. However, for the team, that experience was the most valuable. “Follow their competency standards, cut down on long-winded explanations, and include more data-driven arguments,” Leora advised. Claudia added, “The most important thing is to keep striving without limits; the final result will follow the process.” Meanwhile, Daffa emphasized the importance of understanding the rules of each competition before diving in. “Find out the information first, then adapt accordingly,” he said.
