BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Several teams from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) achieved notable success at the 2023 Improvement and Innovation Award (IIA) organized by Pertamina EP Regional 2.

The IIA Forum, an annual event organized by Pertamina EP since 2018, serves as a platform to showcase innovations and the Continuous Improvement Program (CPI) to management, stakeholders, and other industry professionals.

This year, 113 teams took part in the IIA Forum. ITB was chosen as the first campus to hold the forum. In total, there were 3 teams from ITB that won the best poster award. The following were the winners:

- Best Poster 1: Won by Team Veteran7 from ITB Petroleum Engineering, titled “Unlocking the Power of Fractured Gas Reservoir: Pioneering Mega-Scale Energy Storage Through Seamless Integration with Renewable Resources.”

- Best Poster 2: Won by Team Power Engineering from ITB Electrical Power Engineering, titled “Green Hydrogen Co-Firing, a Solution to Limited Natural Gas Resources.”

- Best Poster 3: Won by Team Ulubelu from ITB Geological Engineering, titled “Estimation of Nonconventional Geothermal Resource Potential of Hot Sedimentary Aquifer in Central Sumatra Basin.”

- Favorite Poster: Won by Team CoolKids from ITB Engineering Physics, titled “Integration of Adsorption-based Refrigeration System Technology with Desalination Function on Offshore Platform.”

Posters presented in this competition were designed according to the theme "Future of Oil & Gas Industry, Renewable Energy, and Digital Transformation and Innovation Ecosystem." For this specific competition, the assessment criteria were suitability to the given theme, relevance to the industry, and originality.

Agus Suprijanto, Senior Relations Manager of Pertamina Subholding Upstream for Java, emphasized that the main goal of 2023 IIA was collaboration. This year's IIA was to collaborate the company's innovations with students' ideas to create a better oil & gas industry.

"Continuous improvement and innovation do not end on campus but continue in the industrial world. We have to continuously innovate in order to survive," said Agus.

Meanwhile, ITB's Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., stated in her opening remarks that innovation was inseparable from the sustainability of a business. In today's digital era, innovation coexists with technological developments.

According to her, sooner or later, technological developments were going to slow down without innovation. As the driver of innovation, universities required responsive and inclusive efforts to make it a reality.

In conclusion, it is hoped that the 2023 IIA will drive national development and enhance the productivity and quality of the nation's workforce.
