ITB and Boeing Join Forces to Propel Indonesia's Aerospace Education
BALI, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday (September 18, 2024), in Bali to enhance aerospace and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in Indonesia.
The MoU was signed by ITB Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Ir. I Gede Wenten, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Boeing Indonesia Managing Director, Zaid Alami.
Zaid Alami stated that this partnership with ITB marks a significant step in strengthening the talent pipeline needed to compete in Indonesia's growing aerospace industry.
"We are committed to continuously supporting universities in Indonesia to meet the challenges of the evolving aerospace sector," he said.
The event took place during the 2024 Bali International Airshow (BIAS), the largest aerospace exhibition in Southeast Asia, aimed at positioning Indonesia as a regional leader in the aviation industry. The event was attended by over 100 companies and 100 delegations from 35 countries/regions and was supported by various Indonesian ministries and government agencies.
On Thursday (September 19, 2024), the Dean of ITB's Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., was one of the speakers in a discussion with PT LEN regarding unmanned aircraft, presenting from an academic perspective.
Boeing has been present in Indonesia since 1949 when Garuda Indonesia began operations with Douglas DC-3 aircraft. Today, Boeing's presence in Indonesia spans commercial aviation, defense, commercial satellites, supply chains, technical training, partnerships with universities, and community impact initiatives across the local industry.
