Team IoTelligence won 2nd Place at the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) Batch 6 on Monday (May 26, 2025).
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Four students from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) secured 2nd Place in the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) Batch 6, a technology competition organized by Samsung Electronics Indonesia, on Monday (May 26, 2025).
The IoTelligence team, comprising Ahmad Mudabbir Arif (Informatics Engineering, 2022), Jihan Aurelia (Information Systems and Technology, 2022), Marzuli Suhada M. (Informatics Engineering, 2022), and Nasywaa Anggun Athiefah (Information Systems and Technology, 2022), presented an innovative solution in the form of an AI- and IoT-based microsleep detection device aimed at enhancing road transportation safety.
The team developed a system that uses Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reduce the risk of accidents caused by drowsy drivers. The device utilizes a camera to detect closed eyes using an Eye Aspect Ratio model, triggers a buzzer as a warning, and sends the data to an AI dashboard that provides adaptive work schedule recommendations.
The idea stemmed from the alarming number of traffic accidents involving fatigued drivers. “Drivers are key actors in the transportation ecosystem—they're on the road every day,” said Nasywaa.
Support from SIC played a significant role in developing the prototype, providing IoT devices and technical mentoring sessions. Despite challenges such as sensor limitations and time constraints amid academic responsibilities, the team overcame them with solid time management and teamwork.
“Our tips: focus on real problems, emphasize collaboration and time management, and develop prototypes that are actually feasible,” said Marzuli.
Moving forward, the team plans to improve hardware, enhance AI accuracy, and conduct large-scale testing. They hope the device will eventually become a workplace safety standard in transportation companies.
For the team, integrating AI and IoT is the key to building a safer, more efficient, and digitally empowered Indonesia.
