BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Directorate of Partnerships ITB held its annual ITB Cultural Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Hosted at the International Relations Office (IRO), the event served as a platform for cultural exchange and assisted international students in their adaptation to life at IT
The event opened with a welcoming speech from the Vice Rector for Communication, Partnership, Alumni, and Administration, Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, B.A., M.A.. He expressed appreciation for the participants' enthusiasm and reaffirmed ITB’s commitment to providing a holistic experience that combines academic excellence with an introduction to Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
Lia Amelia Tresna Wulan Asri, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Sub-Directorate of International Mobility, noted that the event is held twice a year. This ensures that international students arriving in different semesters have equal opportunities to familiarize themselves with the local culture at the start of their studies.
The Chairperson of ITB Cultural Day 2026, Ihsan Hari Ramadani Muttaqin, described the event as a gateway to the archipelago. “Today is about exploring the flavors, sounds, and colors of Nusantara. We are here not merely to observe, but to directly experience that cultural richness,” he stated.

The festivities featured a captivating performance of the Ratoh Jaroe dance by the ITB Aceh Arts Unit (UKA). The energetic and synchronized movements were a highlight for many international students.
During the interactive workshop sessions, students participated in three key activities that offered a hands-on experience with Indonesian traditions. Participants engaged in a Batik workshop to learn the techniques of this world-renowned Intangible Cultural Heritage. They also delved into Aceh Arts, exploring the history and intricate movements of traditional Acehnese dance. Finally, the Culinary Arts session allowed students to prepare klepon, a traditional snack, guiding them through every step from ingredient processing to the specific technique of filling the dough with palm sugar.

Sojeong Park, a South Korean student at the School of Business and Management (SBM ITB), shared her impressions. She highlighted the Aceh dance performance as her favorite moment and valued the event's role in broadening her perspective. “Through this opportunity, I met international students from various backgrounds and learned firsthand about diversity,” she remarked, also commending the committee for the orderly and systematic organization of the event.

The celebration concluded with a Poco-poco dance, symbolizing cross-cultural harmony. Through this successful event, ITB reaffirms its dedication to strengthening international relations and fostering an inclusive campus environment for the global community.
