BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with Boeing, held the Final Demo Day of the Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD) Indonesia 2026 program at ITB Innovation Park, Summarecon Bandung, on Tuesday (October 13, 2026). The event marked the culmination of an innovation development program that brought together Indonesia's young talents, industry experts, mentors, and innovation ecosystem stakeholders to develop technological solutions in the aerospace sector.

A total of 10 selected startup teams presented their innovations before a panel of judges. Their ideas extended beyond aviation, exploring applications of aerospace technologies in various sectors, including agriculture and healthcare.

BUILD Indonesia 2026 marks the program's inaugural edition in Indonesia. Through this collaboration, ITB and Boeing aim to strengthen ties between academia and industry while creating opportunities for young innovators to transform their ideas into practical, real-world solutions.

ITB and Boeing Collaborate to Nurture Indonesian Talent
ITB Director of Technology Downstreaming and Commercialization, Ir. Hary Devianto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPM, ASEAN Eng., described the collaboration as a reflection of Boeing's confidence in Indonesia's capabilities and innovation potential.

"Indonesia has an abundance of human resources and talented individuals, particularly in technology and engineering. This potential must be supported through opportunities for innovation development, mentorship, and collaboration with global industries," Hary Devianto said.

He expressed hope that the partnership between ITB and Boeing would extend beyond this year's program and continue to foster new innovations in aviation and aerospace in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Boeing Indonesia, Indra Duivenvoorde, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with ITB. He emphasized that developing the aerospace industry goes beyond aircraft manufacturing and requires a strong ecosystem encompassing education, research, and technological advancement.

"Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is one of the key foundations for building such an ecosystem," he said.

Through BUILD Indonesia, participants had the opportunity to learn directly from Boeing experts, industry mentors, and ITB's innovation ecosystem.

"This mentorship helps participants test, refine, and develop their ideas to better align with industry needs," he added.

Aerospace Technology Plays a Strategic Role in Indonesia's Future

President of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII), Dr.-Ing. Ir. Ilham Akbar Habibie, MBA., IPU., ASEAN Eng., highlighted the importance of mastering aerospace technology to advance Indonesia's industrial development toward the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision during his inspirational speech.

He explained that aerospace technology encompasses far more than air transportation. Its applications also include satellite technology, territorial monitoring, logistics, agriculture, and disaster mitigation.

"For Indonesia, as an archipelagic nation, mastering these technologies is strategically important for improving connectivity while addressing various geographical challenges," Ilham Habibie said.

Ilham also emphasized the need to increase the number of engineers and strengthen their role in developing high-tech industries. According to him, Indonesia's long history in aircraft development demonstrates the nation's ability to master advanced technologies.

"As the aerospace industry continues to evolve, young people need more than technical expertise. They must also develop resilience, collaboration skills, and sensitivity to real-world challenges faced by society," he noted.

Ten Startups Present Innovations, Three Teams Receive Awards

During the Final Demo Day, 10 startup teams took turns presenting their business and technological solutions. Participants also showcased their products and innovations in dedicated exhibition sessions, allowing the judges to gain a closer understanding of each idea's development potential.

The 10 finalists were GoTani, AeroSphere LCA, Agritech, Hieren, Avia BSF, Agentic Vibing, Mahalangit, MedFly, SAF and Sound, and Pilotin.id.

Following the evaluation process, three teams received awards in different categories. Avia BSF won The Most Impactful award, Agritech received The Most Innovative award, and Pilotin.id was named The Most Marketable.

Each winning team received IDR 50 million in funding, along with continued mentorship and support to further develop their innovations.

The awards reflect the program's commitment to helping promising ideas progress beyond the competition, increasing their potential to grow into sustainable solutions that deliver meaningful benefits to society.
