BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On Friday (30/03/12), Prof. Daryono Hadi Tjahjono from School of Pharmacy ITB, delivered speech as a professor of medicinal chemistry in Gedung Balai Pertemuan Ilmiah ITB. In his presentation, Prof. Daryono reviewed the prospect of tetrapirol compound for the development of drugs raw materials.
Prof. Daryono said that the physicochemistry characteristics of tetrapirol can serve as a model in studying the interaction of a drug to the macromolecule. In addition, the ease of tetrapirol compound to be modified into its derivatives allow the design of desired activity.

The expectations to use tetrapirol for cancer treatment provide new opportunities in the development of drugs raw materials. The development is expected to lead the independence of drugs raw materials in Indonesia, since mostly are still imported from other country.

Affordable

The phase of drug discovery usually takes a long time, about 2-7 years at a cost about 40% of the total cost to launch a drug to the market. This become one of the challenges in developing tetrapirol as a drugs raw material.

Nevertheless, the discovery with photosensitizer and radiopharmaceutical kit ligand as the carriers of radionuclides into the target can be a solution for the problem. Thus, it is expected that every people may obtain reasonable medical expenses, especially in the diagnosis and the therapy of cancer.

At the end of the speech, a figure who is also the Dean of School of Pharmacy ITB, thanks to the people who have contributed many things to him, both in career and education.
