BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Laznas Rumah Amal Salman, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), as well as a number of partners were back to distribute physical aid prosthetics to 25 people with disabilities, whose equipment was assisted by ITB Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FMAE), Karla Bionics, and Biotechnics, in the GSG room at the Salman Mosque ITB, Tuesday (12/12/2023).
The recipients of the prosthetics consist of students and low income families, with details of 10 multi-axis knee prostheses, 10 canes for the blind, 3 wheelchairs, and 2 adaptive wheelchairs.
The manager of the Rumah Amal program held this collaboration to support the activities of those with disabilities. “This collaboration produced prosthetics specialized for people with physical disabilities, blindness, and cerebral palsy," they said.
The donations are also hoped to motivate people with disabilities to keep working and moving. This aspiration is in line with the activity theme "Embrace Disability: Disabilities that Work and Move".
This is in line with the data from UNICEF from 2018 which stated that around 3 out of 10 school-aged children with disabilities have never received education. Meanwhile, according to BPS’ data from 2022, around 6 out of 10 people within the productive age range are not working. Those two issues are caused by the economic state and mobility limitations of people with physical impairments. The effect is that a major part of the disabled find it difficult to be productive.
“SDG’s require no group of people to be left behind in the building process. These prosthetics will become the start of making it easier for people with disabilities to integrate into society, earn income, access education, get decent work, and be able to enjoy friendly infrastructure," they said.
Golden Medika, an NGO that focuses on the health sector, is interested in technology-based activities for disabilities because it has the same vision as their program.
“We enjoy this disability program since Rumah Amal is not only just a charity house, but it also has empowerment of the people involved. Previously, we received news that a disabled recipient was able to work and was very productive. We were very happy with this news. We hope that this partnership will last long,” said Muhammad Ebrian, Head of Golden Medika's Program and Partnership Division.
Other partners involved include YBM Brilian, Golden Medika, and Sahabat Masjid.
Apart from distributing prosthetics, a series of other activities were also delivered regarding the socialization of soft skills in the form of knowledge and skills as well as life motivation. This program, which is not only a gift, is also expected to increase the independence and productivity of people with disabilities by optimizing prosthetic technology not only for daily activity needs, but can also be empowered through entrepreneurial activities.
