BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — ITB Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., unveiled the newly renovated Soekarno Monument on Tuesday (11/28/2023) at ITB Ganesha Campus, Bandung. The renovation was funded by the 1980 Alumni Association of the Institut Teknologi Bandung (IA ITB).

The Soekarno Monument is a historical landmark commemorating the official inauguration of ITB by President Soekarno in 1959. Situated in Plaza Widya Nusantara or Plawid, the monument holds significant historical importance for the institution.

One of the representatives of IA ITB 80, Adji R, stated that the renovation of the Soekarno Monument had been planned for quite some time. However, the project was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The preparations for this renovation have been underway for a long time, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, progress was halted for a period. However, as soon as the situation improved, IA ITB 80 resumed the renovation, which has now been successfully completed," he mentioned on Friday (12/29/2023).

"The design preparation also took some time, as we needed to adhere to the ITB master plan. But Alhamdulillah, everything proceeded smoothly," he added.

According to him, the Soekarno Monument is not merely a structure but also an iconic symbol of ITB. Hence, it requires preservation and maintenance, which prompted the initiative from IA ITB 80. The renovation aimed to enhance the physical condition of this significant monument, thereby preserving its historical value.

Following the renovation of the Soekarno Monument, IA ITB 80 also established a co-working space. Adji explained that this space is open to various groups, including students and the entire academic community.

"As learning methods and work habits evolve into more flexible forms, we recognized the need for a dedicated space where students, lecturers, and staff can study and work effectively," he remarked.

With the introduction of this co-working space, Adji and IA ITB 80 hope to foster more productive learning habits and cultivate a better work culture within the academic community.

Moreover, IA ITB 80 frequently organizes various activities and community services, demonstrating its commitment to the values of the Tridharma of Higher Education.

"We conduct various community and social services annually in different regions. This reflects our dedication to implementing the Tridharma of Higher Education and contributing to our alma mater," he concluded.
