260 Students Compete in ONMIPA College at ITB

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) became the host for The National Mathematics and Science Olympiad College (ONMIPA-PT) 2023. The opening ceremony was held at Multipurpose Hall, 3rd floor of CRCS Building ITB, on Tuesday (13/6/2023).
The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiirng, M.Eng., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS), the Chief Executive of National ONMIPA 2023, Dr. Deana Wahyuningrum, S.Si., M.Si., and the Head of Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), Asep Sukmayadi, S.IP., M.Si.
University students from around Indonesia participated in this annual competition, which will last five days.
“After the regional selection, which was held online, from 2500 participants, 260 were selected from 4 scientific fields that were competed in this ONMIPA PT 2023, those are Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics,” explained Dr. Deana during her opening remark as the Chief Executive of National ONMIPA 2023.
After an opening remark from Dr. Deana, the opening ceremony proceeded with remarks from the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs FMNS, Prof. Dr. Rukman Hertadi, S.Si. In his remark, Prof. Rukman conveyed the importance of science in developing technology. In addition to that, he also expressed his hope to all ONMIPA participants.
“Do not limit yourself to just competition. I hope you can use this event as a way to create networks for future cooperation,” expressed Prof. Rukman in his remark.
Meanwhile, Asep Sukmayadi, S.IP., M.Si., delivered a message to ONMIPA participants to make this event an inspiration-sharing platform.
This year ONMIPA was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiring. He expressed his hope that the students could improve their soft skills by participating in this event.
“The ability to be humble, the ability to cooperate, those soft skills that are hard to get only from the curriculum can be earned by this kind of extracurricular activities,” said Prof. Jaka.
