BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — On October 1, 2024, PT Badak NGL conducted an event named "Badak LNG Goes to Campus: Introduction and Roles of Engineering Graduates in the LNG Industry" on ITB CRCS Building 3rd Floor. The purpose of this event was to introduce the LNG (liquified natural gas) industry to the public and the roles of engineering graduates in it.
The event presented two ITB Chemical Engineering (TK) alumni: Ir. Prapti Dwi Utami, S.T., M.B.A. (TK'08) as Senior Supervisor Estimator, and Ir. Okky William Lukman, S.T., M.B.A. (TK'09) as Specialist SHEQ Management System.
Around 200 students attended the event; they came from various majors at ITB, such as chemical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, and engineering physics.
A speech by the Chairman of ITB Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Program, Ir. Hary Devianto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPM, ASEAN Eng. marked the start of the event. He revealed that this program is a form of cooperation between ITB and the industry to expand students' knowledge about job careers and industries, especially the oil and gas industry in Indonesia.
It continued with explanations regarding the difference between LNG and LPG (liquified petroleum gas) production processes, from upstream to downstream. The event then transitioned to a presentation session on PT Badak NGL itself.
In their presentation, Ms. Prapti and Mr. Okky explained that PT Badak NGL is a sub-holding of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, which began operations in 1977 in Bontang, East Kalimantan, with Muara Badak as its gas source.
PT Badak NGL currently owns eight LNG and LPG plants with a total capacity of 22 MTPA (million tons per annum). It is being supported by independent cargo and loading dock areas, as well as electricity generation from boilers and solar power plants.
In addition, the speakers described in detail the prospects and roles of engineering graduates in the oil and gas industry. At PT Badak NGL, approximately 87.5% of management are engineering graduates, of which 23% are ITB graduates. Of the existing 59 engineers, 29 are also ITB graduates, showing that engineering graduates are greatly demanded in the industry, especially in operations, engineering, and maintenance. Not to mention the possibilities for other divisions such as finance and personnel administration.
This event was closed with a documentation session with all participants. Prizes were also awarded to participants who actively asked questions and won the company's Instagram challenge.
