BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Students of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) made yet another proud achievement: the EAST Team, comprising Khoerunnisa Azzahra and Aldi Firdiansyah from ITB Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, won 3rd place at the ASEAN Geo-Smart Competition (GEOSAC) 2025. This national-level competition was organized by the Students Executive Board, Geography Students Association, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
ASEAN GEOSAC 2025 raised the theme "Cultural Synergy and Sustainable Goals: Generation Z's Innovations for a Sustainable Future." Bringing together students from various universities across Indonesia, the competition aimed to provide a platform for the younger generation to innovate in sustainable development.
In this competition, the EAST Team presented a scientific work titled "Spatial Modeling of Multiscenario Air Pollution Risk and Its Impact on Pneumonia Through WebGIS-Based Time Series Analysis in West Java." The study focused on modeling air pollution risks using remote sensing data and machine learning while analyzing its impact on pneumonia cases in West Java.
"We want to contribute to the mapping of air pollution risks and public health. Our model not only predicts air pollution risks for 2030 but also examines their effect on the spread of pneumonia. Moreover, we built WebGIs as an interactive platform to make the data more accessible to various parties," described Mentari.

This study is expected to support the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, with a focus on SDG Targets 3.9.1 and 11.6.2. The first target concerns reducing deaths and diseases caused by chemicals, pollution, and contamination of air, water, and soil by 2030. The second target deals with minimizing urban impacts on the environment by improving air quality.
The EAST Team's achievement was inseparable from the guidance of Dr. Eng. Anjar Dimara Sakti, S.T., M.Sc., and support from the ITB Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology (FITB), and the ITB Directorate of Student Affairs.
"Throughout this competition, I was motivated to do the best research possible, both in data processing and scientific writing. Our participation in the competition paved a way for us to implement the knowledge taught in lectures, explore new scientific fields, and become more curious," concluded Mentari.
