Bandung, itb.ac.id - The Catalyzer Team from the 2020 cohort of Petroleum Engineering at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has achieved an impressive victory by becoming the champion in the "Case Study Competition APECX 2024," organized by SPE UGM SC. The team consists of Anisah Zahrah Ayuputri, Jasmine Christiana Manihuruk, and Nur Shafa Erinda. Together, they united in their mission to showcase their skills and creativity in addressing future energy challenges.

This international competition, themed "Enhancing The Contribution of Oil and Gas for Future Energy Resiliency," saw Team Catalyzer advancing from the preliminary stage to the final stage with outstanding performance, surpassing 22 other participating teams. They were crowned champions at the Gala Dinner on Sunday (March 10, 2024), in Yogyakarta.

Catalyzer's CCUS Hub Initiation Plan

The idea presented by the Catalyzer team in this competition focused on energy transition through the implementation of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) and a future CCUS Hub project in Indonesia. They proposed the establishment of a CCUS Hub in the Kutai Basin, East Kalimantan, which would utilize CO2-EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) for environmental conservation and energy security.

Catalyzer's Implementation Strategy

In their process, the Catalyzer team conducted in-depth analyses of various aspects, from the most efficient CO2 capture technologies to innovations such as CO2 WAG (Water Alternating Gas) injection and CO2 LSWAG (Low-Salinity Water Alternating Gas). They also suggested implementing CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) in fields nearing their economic limits as promising CO2 storage sites.

The journey to victory was not easy. The Catalyzer team prepared thoroughly, from the abstract selection stage to the final round. They devised implementation strategies and innovations, and conducted comprehensive analyses to solve the given case. In their final presentation, they impressed the judges with well-planned and comprehensive solutions.

The key factors to the Catalyzer team's success were perseverance, strong determination, good time management, and solid teamwork. They did not hesitate to seek help from various parties, including lecturers and senior students. With high enthusiasm, they honed their problem-solving skills in the oil and gas field.

They advised other students aspiring to participate in similar competitions to never be afraid to start something new and to use competitions as a platform to express themselves. They believe that with passion and hard work, anyone can achieve outstanding accomplishments in both academic and non-academic competitions.
