BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held the 64th Dies Natalis Open Session on Thursday (2/3/2023). Chair of Board of Trustees ITB, Ir. Yani Panigoro, M.M., delivered her remark on the event that was held at ITB West Hall.

"Today's anniversary is very memorable, the reason is no other than because it coincides with important phases in both national and international affairs, which is the receding of the Covid-19 pandemic," she said.

The easing of the Covid-19 pandemic did not necessarily make us careless or even arrogant because we had managed to escape death and become a champion in the public eye. The Covid-19 pandemic has dealt blows and impacts to every aspect of our life. Citizens across the world were forced to change in order to survive another pandemic in the future.

"Quoting an old Javanese proverb, that is "eling lan waspodo" or "mindful and vigilant" which feels relevant right now. We need to be careful and remain vigilant without getting caught up in excessive anxiety when facing the post-Covid19 pandemic world. In line with the theme of the 64th ITB Dies Natalis, you ought to have perceived the essence of the journey of our alma mater so that we may spare our time and thought for its prosperity," expressed Yani.

Fulfilling our duty to our nation can be done with a spirit of collaboration and networking. The Chair of the Board of Trustees said that academic ego needs to be discarded so that we can fulfill our duty. "I would not pick an extravagant example. Just look at the Bosscha Observatory. The observatory which since 1959 has been part of ITB and under the FMNS administration was the axis of all observatories in the southern hemisphere. Its existence has provided a massive contribution to the field of astronomy. Let's express our appreciation to ITB astronomers and its management," she said proudly.

The drive to learn from the pandemic and the existence of Bosscha Observatory have their essence on the unwinding spirit of all. "Here attend a number of researchers, lecturers, and the inventors of various innovations from ITB. However, I and my colleagues from the ITB Board of Trustees are not easy to feel adequate. Keep on building and create a wondrous gift for this nation!"

Collaboration and networking in every aspect of science and professional background can produce sustainable and inclusive growth. "A lot of issues in the world can be overcome if we work together, creating sustainable and inclusive growth for all. As my closing, in this joyous opportunity, once again, I express my congratulations on the commemoration of the 64th ITB Dies Natalis, keep on working, and keep on dedicating yourself to this nation!"
