Directorate General of Higher Education of The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Visits STP ITB Gedebage: Promoting Research and Development in Science and Technology

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - The Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Ditjen Dikti Kemendikbudristek) visited the Science Techno Park Building of Institut Teknologi Bandung (STP ITB), located in the integrated city area of Summarecon Gedebage, Bandung, West Java, Tuesday (13/2/2024).
Also present at this agenda, Plt. Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN.Eng., who was welcomed by the Vice Rector for Finance, Planning and Development of ITB, Prof. Ir. Muhamad Abduh, M.T., Ph.D.
On this occasion, Prof. Abduh gave a speech as well as representing the Rector of ITB, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D.
Then it was continued with a presentation from a Professor of the School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development (SAPPD) ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Surjamanto W., M.T. For information, STP ITB itself is an innovation area that aims to encourage the downstreaming of research and development from ITB to the community.
"STP has four buildings. The total building area is around 50,000 square meters. Inside there will be a number of laboratories and can also be used for commercial areas," he said.
He explained that with various land maturation and construction processes that have been carried out, STP ITB will be the tallest building in the Gedebage area, Bandung.
STP ITB is also projected to be the leading business incubation and technology development center in Indonesia, which also supports the commercialization of innovations from ITB and other research institutions. "(This is) not only a building, but this STP becomes an ecosystem and spearheads the downstreaming of innovative products by ITB," he said.
In its development, the scope of STP ITB is divided into four main clusters, including transportation, technology and health, infrastructure, and disaster management. Moreover, STP ITB will also become an incubator center for startups fostered by ITB, especially those focused on technology.
Meanwhile, Prof. Nizam responded positively to the progress of the STP ITB building construction. "The construction of STP is a very important thing to accelerate the downstream process of research and development results from universities to the community to the industrial world," he said.
He also explained that the existence of STP is not just a building, but emphasizes the spirit and purpose in it. "In the future, it is essential for research and innovation endeavors to progress downstream. Achieving downstream success requires strengthening upstream activities to ensure the necessary foundations for sustainable growth." he said.
He also supported the development of startups that are considered to have very good prospects if they have incubation such as STP ITB. According to him, STP can also have the potential to produce unicorn or even decacorn startups in the future.
"With the existence of STP, it will further build a conducive innovation ecosystem. This certainly needs to be developed more fully," he concluded.
