BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Recently, Himpunan Mahasiswa Sipil Institut Teknologi Bandung (HMS ITB) held a community service program titled Sipil Bangun Desa (SIBADES) in Cintaasih Village, West Bandung Regency, West Java on the last Saturday-Sunday, (21-22/01/2023).
The community service program mentioned was the construction of village infrastructure facilities in the form of a new 140-meter road with a road width of 2.3 meters in Cigedong Hamlet, Cintaasih Village.
The Chief Organizer of SIBADES, I Gusti Putu Agata Wicaksana, stated that this activity had actually been held since May 2022. In the early stages, this activity began with the surveying and data collection stages carried out by a number of related divisions, namely the Project Management Division, Engineering Division, and Graphic Promotion Media, to find the main problems that SIBADES will try to solve. After two months of the surveying process, the team managed to decide that the main problem that had to be resolved was the damage to the road infrastructure in Cigedong Hamlet.
"After the HMS team, whose members came from one of those 3 divisions, conducted surveys and collected data, we saw that the problem of road damage in Cigedong Hamlet needed to be addressed immediately because the losses from this problem were quite large. If calculated, the value of the loss can reach 155 million per year,” Putu explained when met with reporter from ITB PR.
In building the new road, Putu and his team formulated that the type of pavement to be used in the construction of this new road was jointed plain concrete pavement. The choice of this type of pavement was made because it has been adapted to the soil conditions in said hamlet.
Finally, starting in November 2022, the process of building this new road began. HMS ITB collaborated a lot with the local community to speed up the construction process. "During the construction process, we were very grateful that the community around Cintaasih Village had a very supportive attitude. They voluntarily offered to cooperate with us to build this new road," he said.
At the end of the interview session, Putu explained that the SIBADES program in its core was one of the community service activities carried out under the HMS ITB Community Department. It is aimed to provide a platform for ITB civil engineering students in their efforts to implement the Tri Dharma motto of higher education. Even though that is the case, he continued explaining that the main focus of this activity was not only for community service but also for the education and development of ITB civil engineering students."
Actually, Sibades is a community project from ITB Himpunan Mahasiswa Sipil (HMS) which was held to increase student awareness of the community and be able to produce civil engineering works that can be useful so that students' obligations in the Tri Dharma of higher education can be achieved," Putu said.
Putu also advised that students should not feel superior to the community. With the knowledge they have, he hoped that students could provide positive contributions to the community. He also mentioned that universities in Indonesia should support community service-related student programs to overcome problems that occur in remote or disadvantaged areas.
