ITB Admits 791 Students of Post Graduate and Professional Programs of Academic Year 2018/2019

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung held Open Session of Official Welcoming Ceremony for Freshmen (PPMB) in Doctoral, Master’s, and Professional Programs, Second Semester of Academic Year 2018/2019. It was held at Aula Barat, ITB Ganesha Campus on Friday (11/01/2019)
This semester, ITB admits 791 freshmen, comprising 37 students of Doctoral Program, 686 students of Master’s Program, and 68 students of Professional Program. They have completed the registration process and admitted as students of post graduate and professional programs, second semester of Academic Year 2018/2019.
On this PPMB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA., as Rector of ITB delivered a speech about Implementation of Local Problem Solving with Globally Recognized Quality and carried out the theme "Smart Ocean Initiative through Development of Ocean Cyber-Infrastructure".
According to the rector, Indonesia is well-recognized as maritime country. Maritime development can adopt smart city concept which comprises six pillars, namely smart governance, smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, and smart living, all of which are intersected with Information and Communications Technology (ICT). “We can give it the touch through ‘Smart Ocean Initiative’ concept,” said the rector.
The rector hopes that freshmen of post graduate program can make big contribution to Indonesian people, especially through excellence in research and innovation, and respond to four strategic issues, namely coding, big data management, artificial intelligence, and sustainability.
“Never hesitate to discuss local problems. Give those problems globally recognized solutions,” said the rector. He added that many researches discuss global problems but the results are not globally recognized. On the other hand, many researches discuss local problems and the results are globally recognized, cited, and referenced. “Therefore, solve local problems, national problems, and global problems with world’s recognized results. That’s world class research,” he said.
On the same occasion, Deputy Executive Director for Post Graduate Admission of ITB, Prof. Dra. Fida Madayanti Warganegara, M.S., Ph.D., said that selection and administration processes were carried out online from 10th September until 26th October 2018. Applicants who passed should update student’s data online from 22nd November until 16th December 2018.
The next step is re-registration on 17th-19th December 2018, followed by further verification to required documents. Student number and student ID card (KTM) were issued on 11th January 2019 for students who passed the aforementioned further verification
The average age of Master’s Program students is 27 years old, with 20 and 51 years old being the youngest and oldest age respectively. Meanwhile in Doctoral Program, the average age is 31 years old, with 23 and 57 years old being the youngest and oldest age respectively.
Besides Indonesian students, by 31 December 2018 there are eight international students admitted to Master’s Program. Four come from Czech Republic, one from Slovakia, one from Italy, one from China, and one from India. There are also four Doctoral students who come from Sudan.
