BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - A group of students from ITB's Mining Engineering, members of the Crystalline team, have achieved remarkable success in the International Sriwijaya Mining Games (ISMG) competition. The competition, organized by the Faculty of Engineering at Sriwijaya University, saw the participation of six universities and occurs biennially.

The Crystalline team, comprising eight individuals, including seven players and one manager, demonstrated their dedication to the competition. The player lineup includes Raditya Lucas Sinaga, M. Satrio Saidpudin, Farrel Rheza Prakusya, Dzakwan Naufal Pratama, Adrian Adinata, Mega Syahrani, and Raja Parmonang Manurung. The team manager, Ruben Valentino Tambunan, played a pivotal role as the liaison between the committee and the team, also providing supervision during competitions.

The hard work of the Crystalline team bore fruit as they secured the 3rd General Champion position. Their success was attributed to multiple victories, including 1st place in the Rock Mineral Identification competition category, 2nd place in Hand Mucking Competition, Mine Plan Design, Crushing and Grinding. Additionally, the team achieved third place in six other competition categories.

The team's formation originated from a selection process initiated by the ITB Mining Student Association. The Competitions and Works Division, responsible for sending at least one team representative to compete externally, facilitated the selection process. After being facilitated by the school, prospective players registered to become part of the ISMG player team, underwent a written test and interview, leading to the formation of the seven players.

"Almost every day there is training with the team, be it practice questions or case studies," mentioned Ruben, one of the team members.

Over a month was spent practicing together, with the team manager devising a schedule for the seven players to engage in both offline and full-team practices. The competition's material surpassed typical college learning, necessitating a solid understanding of lecture material as the foundation for advanced comprehension.

The competition series unfolded from November 13 to 18, 2023, featuring webinars, seminars, competitions, festivals, company visits, and closing events. Focused on three days starting November 14, 2023, the competition aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the mining world, including a company visit to PT Bukit Asam.

"This is even more challenging because no one has ever participated in this competition before," added Ruben.

The team encountered various challenges during the competition, such as differences in the specifications of the tools used. To overcome this, the team prioritized theoretical understanding, followed by rigorous calculations. This strategic approach allowed them to adapt when using different tools.

Raja Parmorang, one of the players, emphasized the uniqueness of this competition, as it predominantly focused on practical aspects of mining. "Participating in this competition at ISMG opened a broad view for me about mining techniques in practice. It also illustrates that teamwork is needed when working in the future," expressed Raja.

Beyond the competition experience and company visits, the Crystalline team forged new connections with participants from other universities. This internalization aligns with ITB's commitment to national-scale collaboration.
