BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Three Engineering Chemistry Institut Teknologi Bandung (IT) students won the third position in Pertamina Space Up 5.0 call for paper competition held by Pertamina University. This year Pertamina Space Up 5.0 was themed "Youth's Blueprint to Tackle the Global Emergencies; A Prerequisite of Sustainable Developments."
The three students are Mia Nuramalia Aim (Engineering Chemistry, 2021), Eva Monica Anandhita (Engineering Chemistry, 2021), and Tito Wijayanto (Engineering Chemistry, 2019). Their team, Treasure, was supervised by Ardiyan Harimawan, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Chemical Engineering Process Design and Development Research Group. As a supervisor in this competition, Ardiyan helped the team develop their paper's topic.
Their research paper was titled "Wastewater Treatment with Implementation of Fe2O3/TiO2/Activated Carbon (FT/AC) Nanocomposite Method for Integrative Adsorption/Photocatalysis System Utilizing Lignin from Black Liquor."
This competition began on 1 December 2022 and finished on 26 March 2023. Their preparations for this competition included learning about scientific article-writing methods. Pertamina Space Up 5.0 is the first competition for Mia and the second for Eva in their college years. Tito has more previous experience. Therefore he contributed a lot to designing their presentation.
As juniors, Mia and Eva admitted that they were sometimes still confused when searching for ideas. "We were unsure about our ideas, so Tito helped and gave us many suggestions," said Mia.
An interesting thing happened during the winner's announcement. Mia said that because the announcement was held online, they needed help hearing who the winners were.
"However, we could faintly hear our team's name. So, after the announcement, we were still unsure whether we won," said Mia.
The Treasure Team was committed to sparing their time for this competition during their busy college schedule. They put much priority on this competition. The Treasure Team also conveyed that sacrificing their time and hard work was crucial for success in this competition.
