IYEC 2016: Concrete Efforts to Achieve Energy Independence

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Petroleum Engineering Association of Indonesia (IATMI) Section ITB challenged the youth of Indonesia to participate in the development of energy issues in its annual event "Youth IATMI Energy Challenge (IYEC) 2016". IYEC 2016 on the theme "Getting to Know the World Oil and Gas Indonesia and Realizing Innovation Technology for the Advancement of Indonesian Petroleum Industry" presented in some agenda, such as Health Fair, Grand Seminar, Technology Design Competition, Petrolmypiad, Energy Research Competition, and Poster Competition. The event has been held since 2016 IYEC Saturday-Sunday (24/01-07/02/16).
IYEC 2016 began with Health Fair as a pre-event on Saturday, 24/01/16. IATMI SM ITB in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE) ITB, and Petroleum Engineering Students Association (HMTM) "PATRA" ITB together with Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the Faculty of Dentistry Unpad provided health checks, dental checks, and free blood donor. Furthermore, on Saturday, 02/06/16 IYEC 2016 held a Grand Seminar entitled "Understanding the Technology Development, Regulation and National Energy Potential Achieve Energy Independence Within Nation". The seminar invited Dr. Ir. Bambang Widarsono, M.Sc. DIC (Head of Technology Development Center of Oil and Gas Le Migas), Ir. Julfree Sian (Head of Reservoir Development TOTAL E & P Indonesie), and Elan Biatoro (Head of Public Relations SKK Migas) as the speakers.
In addition, on Sunday, 07/02/16 IYEC 2016 also held competitions for Indonesian students, such as Technology Design Competition, a problem-solving competition in the field of Petroleum Engineering of the case studies are given; Petrolmypiad, a smart competition in the field of engineering, chemical engineering and geology; and Energy Research, a competition related to energy utilization or modification of existing energy. High school students also took part in IYEC 2016 in Poster Competition exhibited in the same day.
"IYEC 2016 is a routine event that aims to create a generation of people who are sensitive to energy development in this country," said Jalu Wan (Petroleum Engineering 2013) in his speech at the IYEC 2016 Grand Seminar. Through seminars and competitions held, IYEC 2016 is expected to spark new solutions and innovations for energy-related issues from the youth. Going forward, Jalu hoped that the younger generations to understand how to develop and realize the independence of the nation's energy.
