BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Kaditya Rakan Pandyansa, a 2023 Electrical Engineering student at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), secured third place in the Ruangguru Clash of Champions (CoC). CoC is a competition participated by 50 outstanding students from various universities in Indonesia and abroad. Known as the “Dark Horse” in the competition, Kaditya is characterized as humble and skilled in devising strategies.

Kaditya is used to employing more than one approach when studying. Besides listening to lectures in class, he sets aside time to study and practice problems.

He admitted that his activities as a university student, having just completed two semesters at ITB, are not much different from when he was in high school. The difference lies in the material. In high school, the material was covered over a longer period, while in college, the same material could be learned in a single session. As someone who enjoys watching action and science fiction films, Kaditya had to adapt, think faster, and seek out other learning sources.

He believes it's important to first understand the basics before exploring more complex material. “Usually, the exams are more difficult than what’s taught in class. But if you already grasp the basics, you can explore further, even though you might make mistakes,” he said on Tuesday (27/8/2024).

Unyielding Spirit and Enjoying the Process

In his daily life, Kaditya is accustomed to giving his best and putting in maximum effort in everything he does. He also prefers to enjoy every process rather than setting high expectations.

Before becoming the third-place winner of Clash of Champions, he had won several math competitions. On one occasion, he won a math competition by answering a question in the final seconds. While others had given up in the last ten seconds, Kaditya kept calculating and didn't give up. As a result, he was the only participant to answer correctly in the final five seconds.

His principles of never giving up and always doing his best continue to guide him. “If people are waiting for me to give up, it means they’ll be waiting forever. If I fail in one instance, it’s just a failure in that one case, not in everything. So, yeah, failing once doesn’t mean everything is a failure,” he said.

Choosing Electrical Engineering at ITB

Kaditya will start his studies as an Electrical Engineering student in early September 2024, after completing the Common Preparatory Stage (TPB) in his first year at ITB's Jatinangor campus. During TPB, he achieved a GPA of 3.92/4.00.

Kaditya graduated from MAN 2 Malang City and was accepted into ITB through the SNBT-UTBK pathway. He admitted that he wanted to pursue a field that is both applicable and closely related to mathematics. He chose Electrical Engineering because it covers a broad range of topics, including systems, programming, electrical circuits, and many other components.

“I first thought about Electrical Engineering ITB when I joined a competition that required participants to combine logic, physics, electrical engineering, and basic programming skills. In the electrical circuits part, it wasn’t just about theory, there was also practice and presentations. Back then, I thought it was really exciting, especially when connecting logic and physics. So, it seemed like a good fit to explore Electrical Engineering because I already had an idea of what I’d be studying and the challenges I’d face,” he explained.

A fan of video games, Kaditya enjoys socializing and has many friends. With his calm demeanor, he finds it easier to build relationships with others.
