KPU and ITB Collaborate to Develop E-Recap System

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – General Elections Commission (KPU) of Indonesia visited Institut Teknologi Bandung to initiate a cooperation in development of electronic-based vote counting system for Simultaneous Regional Elections 2020. The meeting regarding that was held at Executive Meeting Room A, ITB Rectorate Building, Bandung on Friday (11/10/2019)

Chairman of KPU, Arief Budiman said that utilization of information technology is an absolute must in this era, including for General Elections. Information technology will bring about easier, simpler, and faster General Elections.

Arief expressed gratitude and appreciation towards ITB for the tied cooperation to support Simultaneous Elections 2019. In the implementation, several successes are accomplished by tabulation website or ‘Situng’ which records highest data collection for presidential election by 99.5 percent and legislative election by 98.5 percent. This is historical as it is the first Simultaneous Elections in Indonesia.

“This is historical for us, and ITB is part of that. Situng’s accomplishment has invited interests from many countries to learn about election from Indonesia. Regarding that, we highly appreciate ITB and we offer a cooperation proposal so that ITB will remain be involved in the process of Regional Elections 2020,” he said.

He added that cooperation with ITB has started since 2004, “This cooperation is not for the interest of few, but for Indonesia. All things in the information system is done by Indonesians,” he said.

On the same occasion, Rector Kadarsah Suryadi also expressed appreciation and congratulation to KPU for the success of the first ever Simultaneous Elections. He also expressed gratitude for trust that KPU has given in the cooperation for Simultaneous Elections 2019.

“He (chief of KPU) mentioned that there will be Simultaneous Regional Elections 2020. We expressed our sincere thanks for the plan (E-Recap), and ITB are ready to help in the process,” he said.
