Obituary: Farewell to Prof. Senator Nur Bahagia

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — The Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) family mourns the passing of Retired Professor at the Faculty of Industrial Technology (FTI) ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Senator Nur Bahagia, DEA. He passed away on Tuesday (9/4/2024), coinciding with the 29th of Ramadan at 1445H, at 13:45 WIB in Bandung.

As a final mark of respect and appreciation for his service, devotion, dedication to ITB, the state, and the nation throughout his life, the deceased was laid to rest at the ITB West Hall, ITB Ganesha Campus, Bandung, on Wednesday (10/4/2024), concurrent with the 1st of Shawwal 1445H.

Prof. Senator was born in Pekalongan on March 31, 1954. He was a Professor in the Industrial Systems and Techno-Economics Expertise Group. He enrolled as an ITB student majoring in Industrial Engineering in 1977. Subsequently, he pursued his Masters in 1981 in Production Management at IAE - L'Universite d'Aix Marseille III, France, and obtained his Ph.D. in 1985 in Production Systems and Logistics from the same institution.

He was conferred the title of professor in 2004. During his tenure at ITB, he served as the Head of the Research Center for Logistics and Supply Chain Systems at the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) ITB.

Throughout his life, the deceased was honored with several awards, including the 20-Year Satyalancana Karya Satya award in 2003, the 25-Year ITB award in 2003, the 30-Year Satyalancana Karya Satya award in 2009, the 40-Year ITB award in 2018, and most recently, the Development Sector award on the 65th ITB Anniversary in 2024.

In 2012, Prof. Senator was among the initiators of the establishment of the ITB Masters Program in Logistics to address the needs of the logistics sector in Indonesia. Currently, the ITB Masters Program in Logistics serves as a reference for the development of similar study programs in both state and private universities.

Furthermore, he was actively involved in the development of the Industrial Engineering study program at ITB, contributing to its status as one of the most favored study programs at the institute.

Through his social networks, he played an active role in developing cooperation and community service activities. On a national scale, he significantly contributed to the development of the National Logistics Blueprint at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

The procession to release Prof. Senator's body took place solemnly. In his release speech, ITB Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development, Prof. Ir. Muhamad Abduh, M.T., Ph.D., expressed his deepest condolences for the loss.

Throughout his life, he embarked on a remarkable career journey. He emerged as an esteemed figure, leaving many contributions not only to ITB but also to society, the nation, and the state.
"Goodbye, Prof. Senator. Thank you for your dedication and service. Our prayers are with you. May you rest in peace with Allah SWT," said Prof. Abduh.
