BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— A team of students from the School of Pharmacy (SF) ITB successfully won a proud achievement in the literature review competition held by the International Pharmaceutical Student Federation (IPSF) in the Asia-Pacific region. Faizah Rihadatul Aisy and Velika Freesia Ulinaro (Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, 2021) together with Regina Stephanie Wijaya and Putri Maharani Husna (Clinical and Community Pharmacy, 2021) conducted a literature review on infectious diseases.

"We compared the advantages, disadvantages, and developments of 4 different types of bacteria from various published papers. The results show that oral vaccines using bacteria cause a stronger immune response and work more effectively than viruses. In addition, the use of bacteria as a carrier is also more affordable than vaccines that use viruses as carriers," said Regina.

The competition was attended by various teams from Indonesia, Bangladesh, and India. Within one month, the four of them conduct self-taught learning. In compiling this literature review, they referred to the systematic review checklist from The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 which met the organizer's standards.

Rani emphasized that their research topic was very interesting and innovative so it catched the juries’ eyes. The team presented the potential of utilizing various types of bacteria. Their work enriches reference sources for other researchers. Thanks to their hard work, the team won first place on Sunday (7/28/2024).

In the future, the team plans to collaborate with SF lecturers to publish other literature reviews. In addition, they are committed to continue developing the abilities they currently have. Through their IPSF achievement, the team hopes to be inspirations for other students especially in the pharmacy field.
