BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — On Saturday (16/09/2023), Prof. Dr. Muchtadi Intan Detiena, S.Si., M.Si., a Full Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS) ITB, delivered his Scientific Oration titled "The Position of Algebra as an Applicational Foundation for Science and Technology" at the ITB West Hall. In his presentation, Prof. Intan explored the significance of mathematics, particularly algebra, in advancing science and technology, emphasizing the pivotal role of fundamental sciences like mathematics in the modern technological era.
Prof. Intan commenced his oration by illustrating how mathematics provides a means to comprehend real-world phenomena through mathematical descriptions. He underscored the importance of modeling real-world situations in mathematical forms, enabling comprehensive analysis and practical applications for sustainable advancements.
Research in algebraic representation has proven to be highly pertinent in contemporary scientific developments. Algebraic representation theory, a mathematical branch dedicated to delineating algebraic structures and exploring their associated properties, plays a crucial role in shaping various applications in the real world. Algebra serves as the foundation for diverse applications, spanning pure mathematics, computational theory, cryptography, data science, as well as the development of robotics technology and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Muchtadi Intan Detiena highlighted the critical role of algebra representation theory in cryptography, where abstract algebra lays the groundwork for crafting secure and robust cryptographic algorithms. This foundational aspect is essential for safeguarding data and messages transmitted across networks. Additionally, algebraic representation plays a significant role in big data analysis, efficient data processing, and the advancement of robotics and artificial intelligence.
During his oration, Prof. Muchtadi Intan Detiena shared his recent research findings, including the development of an efficient algorithm for elliptical cryptographic curve operations and research related to cyclical code using skew polynomial rings, leading to code development based on coding theory.
Furthermore, he introduced his ongoing project, which focuses on the application of quiver representation in contemporary sciences. This project delves into the application of artificial intelligence in various aspects of everyday life, particularly through artificial neural network algorithms for object introduction and tracking.
In conclusion, Prof. Intan acknowledged that while his discoveries may not have an immediate impact on the conveniences of the world, they contribute to the value and knowledge of the scientific community. He expressed his commitment to consistently contribute to the progress of science and technology for the greater good.
"The journey continues, and I hope it will bring forth greater benefits for the advancement of science and technology, for the nation, God, and alma mater," concluded Prof. Muchtadi Intan Detiena at the conclusion of his oration. This marks a continuation of his research journey, and ITB looks forward to the ongoing contributions of Prof. Intan and other researchers in shaping the future of science and technology.
