BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—The professor of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Prof. Ir. Haryo Winarso, M.Eng., Ph.D., gave his perspective on the development of settlement planning and policy in Indonesia.
It took place at the webinar of The School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development (SAPPD) ITB entitled "Research, Technology, and Policy of Sustainable Settlement Development Towards Golden Indonesia 2045", on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
At the event, Prof. Haryo, who is The Chief of Urban Planning and Design Research Group SAPPD ITB, reviewed the settlement development policies in Indonesia, especially in the context of sustainable settlement development.
Aside from that, he also highlighted how important it is to pay attention to social and capitalist aspects of the development process. "Theoretically, socialism will be widespread in some places. Thus, it may succeed in one region but not in others," he explained.
Prof. Haryo also talked about vertical land consolidation as one of the efforts to tackle slum issues in Indonesia. He highlighted the importance of finding new ways to ensure sustainable settlement development involving the people by creating inclusive areas that consider all of the people’s interests.
During the Q&A session, participants are invited to discuss and exchange ideas about the solution and approach to be applied for achieving better sustainable settlement development in Indonesia. By cooperating with public participants and other stakeholders, hopefully the target of Indonesia becoming a high-income nation (Golden Indonesia) in 2045 will be achieved with the support of sustainable settlement development.
