Becoming an International Campus

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) had cooperated with 90 campus spread in Asia, Australia, Europe and USA. ITB's Rector Akhmaloka explained that this was an effort in order to make ITB a world-class university. Akhmaloka had just arrived from China and India to entwine a good cooperation with their local Universities.
One of these universities are Sin Hua campus located in Techno Park, China. There, Akhmaloka agreed on having an economical partnership. The visit to India was held in India Institute of Techmology (ITT), Akhmaloka hoped that ITB learn how India developed science and technology with conventional and cheap tools, but still managed to give an optimum result.

"I am very impressed by ITT, this campus has 480 lecturer and 9000 students and also able to published many scientific jurnals. At least 2000 jurnals had been published to Scopus, one of the international scientific jurnal publication, in 2010.", said Akhmaloka.

In India, each lecturer must published at least 4 jurnals, a really significant difference if compare to ITB who only demanded one publication for every lecturer during their doctorat program. Furthermore, in number of technical unversity, Indonesia still underneath India. In India there are 14 technical universities, whereas Indonesia only had ITB and ITS.

Alternate Avenues to Global Recognition

Another steps that had already been taken by ITB in becoming world-class university was international accreditation for several major. Electrival Engineering and Marine Engineering were two of the major who had been accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Techology (ABET). Both received accreditation for 6 ear period. While another 2 major, Physical Engineering adn Chemical Engineering would be visited by ABET in November 2011.

Furthermore, students and lecturer were expected to spread in the international field. For students, there were loads of activity, starting from students exchange until world's prestigious competition that can be joined. For lecturers, we hoped that there would also be an international exchange, so that these lecturer can teach otside their homebase.
