BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Students of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) earned a total of four awards in student innovation competition, Ideanation 2019. Those four awards were received by SKC MET and Bhuvana teams as winners of the 1st place, and Legacy and Smaradahana as the winners of the 2nd place. The awards were handed over in the peak event of Ideanation Future Festival (IFF) 2019 on Friday-Saturday (8-9/11/2019) in Jakarta.

Ideanation is an annual competition which challenge participating students to demonstrate their creativity and innovation, as well as encourage them to implement their idea into realization. This year, Ideanation present as a catalyst in innovation, not only in renewable energy, but also in general applied technology, aiming mainly to enhance people’s life quality.

SKC MET as the 1st place winner of ‘Effective and Cost Efficient Technology in Solving Problems in Coal Mining Industry’ created a green technology concept in coal processing. According to Arsyad Bakhtiar, one of the team members, the idea stems from occurring problems in coal power plant where it produce Na2O coming from the coal. High content of Na2O could damage boiler on the engine and reduce the efficiency.

“We try to solve the problem using natural ingredients. The bacteria used to solve the problem produce acid. The acid is organic, hence it is environment-friendly,” said this master program student in metallurgy class of 2018.

During the team’s research process, they conduct routine running every month for studying the organic acid produced by the bacteria. The team go to the extent of designing the factory in the form of a model as an implementation of their proposed solution.

Besides Arsyad, SKC MET also consist of members from undergraduate program in metallurgy, namely Fithratullah Habibie, Rahmadhani Triastomo, and Rifdah Fadhillah. Arsyad said that after the concept, a business plan from their product will follow. This organic acid will also be studied even further.
