Discussing the Paradigm of Creative Industry through FSRD Talk
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) ITB held a talk show, namely FSRD Talk. The talk show is entitled "Anticipating Art and Design in Responding to Paradigm Shifts Towards Creative Economy" was held on Wednesday (23/6/2021). An ITB lecturer was invited as a speaker, namely, Prof. E. Imam Buchori Zainuddin, Professor Emeritus of Design at ITB.
Prof. Imam started his presentation by explaining the development of art in line with the development of science, starting from the Newtonian science paradigm to technoscience. According to him, the complexity of the technoscience paradigm has fused many sciences that are socially built and have cultural and environmental perspectives.
An example of technology that has a significant role in human civilization today is artificial intelligence (AI). AI can quickly help with tasks such as data collection and algorithm processing. "As humans, our challenge now is to collaborate on human intelligence and artificial intelligence," he said.
To respond to these challenges, three attitudes need to be possessed:
- Conscientious thinking to find solutions with AI tools.
- Exploring new cultural understandings that AI cannot do.
- The humanistic approach, for example, with elements of spirituality.
Professor Imam also mentioned that technoscience had ignited the emergence of creative industries related to technological developments and market changes. "Creativity is the most important capital in the rotation of the value of the creative economy," he added.
The creative industry in Indonesia has a unique pattern that is different from other countries. Based on data collected in 2019, culinary, fashion, and craft are the most significant contributors to the GDP of the creative economy in Indonesia.
Therefore, Prof. Imam has high hopes for FSRD ITB, as a faculty that focuses on art and design education, to explore research related to the creative industry. He proposed research topics of insight about kaweruh and its impact on culture, the morphology of forms following the spirit of the information age, cultural neuroscience, the meaning of contemporary culture, UI/UX, media studies, and extended synectics.
The FSRD Talk closed with a discussion session to elaborate on the topic of discussion. Several responders were also attending the session, namely, Adi Panuntun (CEO of Nine Matahari) and Tromarama (Art Collective).
